When local celebrity makeup artist Shaun Lee lost his wallet last month, he expected to never see it again.
Losing his NRIC made him feel “extremely insecure” and there was also cash of $946.
But the loss was extra painful because the wallet was a gift from his partner more than a decade ago and contained photos of his very first dog taken more than 20 years ago.
“The thought of losing them felt like losing a piece of my heart all over again,” Shaun said in an Instagram post on Aug 9.
But weeks later, he received a letter from the police saying it had been recovered.
“When I went down, I found everything intact. Everything. My identity card, cash of $946 and the photos,” he added.
Shaun, who works with celebrities such as actress Rebecca Lim, said not a single cent was taken and he was touched by the thought of someone “taking the time and effort to return it”.
“I asked the police who he or she was but they couldn’t disclose their identity. I so wish I could thank them personally,” he said, before adding: “Today, on our National Day, I reflect on my experience with so much gratitude. I am proud to be a Singaporean and I’m grateful to live in a country where honesty prevails and kindness thrives.
“Thank you whoever you are for returning my wallet. I truly appreciate it and thank you for reminding me that there is still goodness in the world.”
Rebecca, 39, commented on the post: “Thank you for reminding me that there is goodness in the world too. I miss you! Meet soon!”
The two have grown close over the 20 years working together, and Rebecca has shared that Shaun was the person who organised the dinner where she met her husband Matthew Webster.
Shaun also did her bridal makeup for their wedding in November 2022.
