Britney Spears’ ex-husband Sam Asghari has broken his silence after the pop star’s dramatic DUI arrest this week.
The Toxic singer, 44, was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol on Wednesday, following a tense highway pursuit captured in a chilling 911 dispatch recording.
Spears was later released and is scheduled to appear in court on May 4, as troubling new details about the lead-up to the arrest continue to emerge.
The singer had reportedly fired her sobriety coach just weeks earlier – while police were also called to her home a staggering 14 times over the past two years.
Hours after the arrest made headlines, Asghari – who split from Spears in August 2023 after 14 months of marriage – was asked about the situation during an interview with NewsNation.
The Iranian-American model, 32, appeared to sidestep the drama, instead continuing to focus on the escalating war between the United States and Iran, which he had previously weighed in on.

‘You know, my focus has been on the Iran situation because this was such a huge situation that deserved my full attention,” Asghari began.
‘As it goes in my past… I cannot skip the past, I celebrate the past… and I think everybody makes mistakes and everybody deserves privacy.’
He concluded, ‘I’d like to stay focused on the situation cause it is bigger than everything right now.. And I am fully responsible to be focused on that.’
Jason Alexander, Britney Spears’ first husband who was famously married to her for only 55 hours before their 2004 annulment, also broke his silence on Thursday with a lengthy Instagram message.
‘Everyone needs to slow down with the headlines about Britney Spears. If reports are accurate that she blew a .06, that is below the legal limit in most states. If the only substances in her system were legally prescribed medications, that changes the narrative completely,’ he wrote.
‘At most, what is being discussed right now could potentially amount to minor misdemeanor charges- things like reckless driving or simple possession if a substance was found in the car. But the internet has already jumped straight to “drunk driving,” “rehab,” and all kinds of speculation that hasn’t been proven.’
‘Britney Spears deserves the same thing anyone else does: facts, fairness, and due process -not headlines built on speculation.’
Spears was also married to Kevin Federline from 2004 to 2007, and they share two sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19.
Last week, Asghari also weighed in after Donald Trump and Israel launched a daytime airstrike on Iran that reportedly killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei along with several other leaders.

Speaking to TMZ, the model did not hold back as he reacted to the dramatic developments.
‘I’m always grateful for America and I’ve always been a proud American – just because everything I have is because of America,’ he said.
The star added that he is ‘even more proud to be an American’ today before sending his gratitude to ‘the soldiers and the military of the United States.’
Asghari went on to say that Khamenei’s death was ‘well-deserved.’
‘He deserved a lot more than death because he’s caused so much chaos around the world, American casualties,’ as well as the deaths of Iranian civilians.
He also described the regime as ‘brutal,’ adding it ‘had to go at any cost because they’ve caused so much chaos in the Middle East.’
Despite the strong remarks, the media personality said he ultimately hopes for peace across the region.
‘I hope to see a peaceful Middle East,’ he said, while also expressing hopes for stability across the world.
Asghari and Spears reached a settlement agreement in May 2024, with the pair officially being divorced in December of that year; (seen in 2018 in Beverly Hills)
‘War is absolutely not great and I want nothing but peace for this world,’ Asghari explained.
Towards the end of the conversation, the star stressed that the ‘Iranian people are completely different from the government.’
Asghari added, ‘Hopefully the Iranian people are able to get their freedom and get their country back.
‘So, I just hope less and less casualties of civilians. Nobody deserves death and hopefully that happens.’
Asghari was born in Tehran, Iran, in 1994 before later moving to the United States at the age of 13.
He first crossed paths with Spears in 2016 while appearing in the music video for her track Slumber Party.
The former couple tied the knot in June 2022, but just over a year later Asghari filed for divorce, citing ‘irreconcilable differences.’
The pair eventually reached a settlement in May 2024 and finalized their divorce in December of that year.
Asghari’s comments come as insiders told TMZ that Spears had recently dismissed members of her sobriety team just weeks before the DUI arrest.
Sources claimed the shake-up occurred after the singer struck a lucrative deal selling rights to her music and returned home to Los Cabos, Mexico.
According to the outlet, several others tasked with looking after the pop superstar were also let go – including security personnel who had been keeping a close watch on the singer.
The news follows the release of the 911 call, where dispatchers and officers describe the chaotic pursuit of Spears in real time.
Shortly after the 911 dispatch call was made public, a source told TMZ that, in addition to suspected DUI, an unknown substance was reportedly found in Spears’s car and will be included in the arrest report.
Following the arrest, a representative for the singer told the Daily Mail: ‘This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully, this can be the first step in the long-overdue changes that need to occur in her life.
‘Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.
‘Her boys are going to be spending time with her, and her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue plan to set her up for success and wellbeing.’
