Brett Gardner’s son Miller did not die of asphyxiation despite previous reports claiming otherwise.

On Tuesday, a “preliminary ruling ruled out asphyxiation” as the 14-year-old’s cause of death and found “no macro-level abnormalities” in his “respiratory tract upon inspection of the body,” Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) told People.

According to the outlet, the former New York Yankees player’s son’s death is still under investigation and a toxicology report is pending.

Officials expect results in about three months.

The investigation agency clarified its findings after they initially reported Miller died of asphyxiation after he ate something while vacationing in Costa Rica.

The OIJ told CNN Tuesday that the “whole family fell ill, likely from food poisoning from something they ate.”

Miller’s body was discovered in an Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort hotel room in Manuel Antonio on Friday.

On Sunday, Gardner, 41, and his wife, Jessica Gardner, announced the death of their son via a statement released on the Yankees’ X account.

“We have so many questions and so few answers at this point,” they wrote.

“Miller was a beloved son and brother and we cannot yet comprehend our life without his infectious smile,” the duo continued.

“He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and his friends. He lived life to the fullest every single day.”

Brett and Jessica also shared a photo of themselves, Miller, and their son Hunter on vacation.

The Yankees released a separate statement, sharing that they were “filled with grief” after watching Miller and Hunter grow up with the MLB team during Brett’s tenure from 2008 to 2021.

“It wasn’t just Brett who literally grew up in this organization for more than 17 years — so did his wife, Jessica, and their two boys, Hunter and Miller,” they wrote.

“We grieve with Brett, Jessica, Hunter and their community of family and friends in mourning the loss of Miller, who had a spark in his eyes, an outgoing and feisty personality, and a warm and loving nature.”
