The announcement of Beyonce’s new tour dates has caused searches for flights to London to surge by 49%.
Travel company eDreams Odigeo, who released the figure, said that global superstars are “inspiring travel to concert destinations across the world.” Beyonce will be performing in the UK capital on her Cowboy Carter tour at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on June 5, 7, 10 and 12.
Search figures show that the singer’s fans, known as the Beyhive, are most interested in the first three dates amongst these performances, on June 5 these are up by 49%, June 7 by 48% and June 10 by 26%.
The figures compare searches made between February 3, the day the tour was announced, and February 12 with the same dates last year. The largest proportion of the flight searches, 25%, came from people in the US.
Soaring travel searches to attend Beyonce’s performances parallels demand for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour last year
Announcements by other giant musical acts such as Taylor Swift have caused similar rushes. Searches for Edinburgh and Liverpool between June 7 and 15 when her concerts took place more than doubled year-on-year, according to eDreams Odigeo. Oasis’s reunion performances taking place this summer also saw a boost in demand for hotels at their concert locations.
Pablo Caspers, chief travel officer at eDreams Odigeo, said: “It’s been fascinating to track the impact of music tourism on global economies, with global artists inspiring travel to concert destinations across the world.
“Loyal Beyhive fans have confirmed this trend, with searches to London up to 49% higher spurred on by Beyonce’s latest tour. Increasingly, today’s global travellers seek choice, flexibility and cost savings for a premium experience when following their favourite artists around the world.”
