Ayo Edebiri says she actually wasn’t trying to stir the pot with her post about Elon Musk causing her death threats.

The Emmy-winning actress took to her Instagram Story on Wednesday, writing, “Stop making my IG stories news. I’m just tryna have a silly goofy time.”

Edebiri’s latest comment came less than a day after she took to her social media to claim that she got “insane death threats and racial slurs” because of the billionaire. On Tuesday, The Bear actress re-shared a fake report on X (formerly Twitter) from February 2024, which claimed that she was replacing Johnny Depp in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. At the time, Musk reacted to the post, writing on X, “Disney sucks.”

“Just remembering when I got some of the most insane death threats and racial slurs of my life (idk if it’s the #1 moment, but for sure top 3) for a fake reboot of a movie I had never even heard of because of this man,” Edebiri wrote on her Instagram Story Tuesday.

“LMAO. So not only is he double Sieg Heil-ing fascist, he’s an idiot but anyway,” she added, referencing Musk’s controversial hand gestures at an event ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration in January.

When her post started to make headlines, that’s when Edebiri clarified she was just having a “silly goofy time” with the Musk post.

As for the future of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, it remains in limbo as multiple ideas have been swirling in recent years — some that involve Margot Robbie and others that see Depp returning. Though Jerry Bruckheimer shared last year that the next installment will likely be a reboot, which would probably mean an all-new cast.

The last Pirates of the Caribbean movie to hit the big screen was in 2017 — Dead Men Tell No Tales — and it starred Depp, Javier Bardem and Kaya Scodelario. As for whether Depp would even want to return to his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow remains a question as he’s been mostly out of the spotlight following his libel trial against Amber Heard in 2022.
