A Sydney-based influencer was left ‘devastated’ recently when she ‘ruptured’ her ACL and was left with two knee fractures during a scooter accident in Croatia.
Tanja Gacic, 44, shared the horrific story to Instagram on Tuesday, revealing she sustained the injury five months ago while visiting her home country.
She said doctors advised her to undergo surgery to repair the damage, but she ‘stubbornly’ refused and tried to heal the injury with wellness and a sports physician.
‘As some of you know, I had a scooter accident in Croatia five months ago and messed up my knee quite badly in the process,’ she told her followers.
‘But because I’m a stubborn Balkan Aries, I thought it was just a little sprain, going about my life with usual vigour but somewhat limping fashion.
‘My delusion ended upon return home to Australia where an MRI showed a knee fracture in two places and a ruptured ACL which naturally left me quite devastated as a lover of beach volley, basketball and tennis.’

Tanja went on to say her first doctor said it was impossible for a ruptured ACL to heal by itself without the aid of surgery and a leg brace.
‘But something inside me made me feel like l wanted to wait,’ she added.
Tanja adopted ‘visualisation meditations’ and drastically changed her diet in an effort to ‘heal’ her injured knee without medical intervention.
She claimed eating ‘crunchy animal joints’, marrow, gelatinous fat, real bone stock, citrus fruits, clean meats, vegetables, goat’s kefir and magnesium helped her heal.
‘Walking on the beach nearly every day barefoot I would imagine my leg whole and healed,’ she said.
‘When I asked you guys for advice on my stories, the name Dr Tom Cross [sports physician] kept repeating over and over again in my DMs so I got a referral to see him.
‘Tom’s been healing ACLs without surgery, a pioneer in his field and a disruptor in the almost universally accepted belief that ruptured ACLs cannot mend without surgical intervention.’
Tanja said Dr Tom deemed her ‘one of 15% of people whose rupture is in just the sweet spot for the healing to eventuate’.

He advised her that her ACL would be healed in another six months if she didn’t injure it again.
‘I feel so grateful for this miracle and in awe of what the body can do when the circumstances are right,’ she said.
Tanja shared an image alongside her lengthy caption.
The snap showed her sporting a huge smile as she flung her arm around Dr Tom’s shoulders and flaunted her very bruised and injured knee.
She shared a video of herself at the end of the reel, which saw her strolling through the streets of Croatia with bandages wrapped around her knee.
Tanja was once known as the close friend of P.E Nation co-founder Pip Edwards, but the pair drifted apart during the Covid lockdowns after more than 20 years of friendship.
While fully-vaccinated Pip, 44, jetted off to the USA and frequented glitzy events across Sydney in 2021, My Empirical Life blogger Tanja used her platform to oppose mandatory vaccinations and support ‘freedom day’ protests against lockdowns.
Tanja attended one such protest in November that year, sharing a photo of herself at the rally captioned: ‘I’m proud to be here, with the people, opposing totalitarian government overreach.’
The fashion influencer stated in the caption that she comes from a ‘line of anti fascist warriors’ as she listed factors she feels are contributing to ‘fascism’ in Australia.
‘Current state proposed legislation changes, obscuring and manipulation of data and information, media propaganda, Pfizergate [sic], ignoring and minimising human rights in courts and attempts at unprecedented emergency powers by some of our leaders are exactly how fascism operated,’ she wrote.
‘This is the hill I die on—democracy or bust,’ she added.
In the posts, Tanja also referred to herself as a ‘citizen journalist’.
It’s the stark opposite of what Pip—who hasn’t been pictured with Tanja since May 2021—was getting up to at the time, as she embarked on a lavish trip to the US to celebrate the launch of her swimwear collection.
Pip would, of course, needed to have been double vaccinated to enter the country—and while there, she was spotted letting her hair down at a star-studded bash and enjoying a glass of Champagne with pals.
