The Padma Awards 2025 were announced on Saturday. These were instituted in 1954, are among India’s highest civilian accolades. The awards are divided into three categories: Padma Vibhusha, , Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. The Ministry of home affairs announced seven Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri awardees. 23 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 10 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI and 13 posthumous awardees.
In March-April this year, President of India President Droupadi Murmu will confer these awards. These celebrate those who have excelled in various fields such as art, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil service, and trade and industry.
The Padma Vibhushan is the second highest civilian award and folk singer Sharda Sinha was awarded India’s second highest civilian honour. She passed away on November 5 last year at Delhi. Malayalam screenwriter-director M T Vasudevan Nair has also been conferred with this honour. He passed away in December last year.
Padma Bhushan is the third highest civilian award. Tamil actor Ajith Kumar, Telugu actor Nandamuri Balakrishna, Anant Nag, Jatin Goswami, late singer Pankaj Udhas, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur have been conferred the Padma Bhushan.
Taking to X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “Congratulations to all the Padma awardees! India is proud to honour and celebrate their extraordinary achievements. Their dedication and perseverance are truly motivating. Each awardee is synonymous with hardwork, passion and innovation, which has positively impacted countless lives. They teach us the value of striving for excellence and serving society selflessly.”

Talking about Padmi Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, this year Arijit Singh, Ashok Laxman Saraf, Ricky Kej, Adwaita Charan Gadanayak, Achyut Ramchandra Palav, Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Barry Godfray John, Gokul Chandra Das, Farooq Ahmad Mir, Durga Charan Ranbir, Bharat Gupt, Guruvayur Dorai, Harchandan Singh Bhatty, Harjinder Singh Srinagar Wale, Hassan Raghu, Jaspinder Narula, Joynacharan Bathari and Nirmala Devi have received the honour.
