Ariana Grande, Mandy Moore and more celebrities speak out after US border patrol agent fatally shoots nurse in Minneapolis: ‘This is terrifying territory’

Hollywood has spoken out following the fatal shooting this weekend in Minneapolis – with stars such as Mandy Moore and Ariana Grande sharing their thoughts on the incident. 

Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old Minnesota resident and nurse, was shot dead during an altercation with federal agents on Saturday. 

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in a press conference that Pretti had ‘reacted violently’ amid the altercation and further questioned why he was carrying a legally-held weapon at the time.  

She added that Pretti had ‘impeded their law enforcement operations, attacked those officers, had a weapon on him and multiple, dozens of rounds of ammunition.’

However, friends close to Pretti said to the Daily Mail that he was ‘executed’ by a U.S. Border Patrol agent. 

Moore took to her Instagram stories not long after the incident and reposted a New York Times article that had the headline: ‘Federal Agents Shoot And Kill A Person In Minneapolis, Officials Say.’ 

The actress then added her own message at the bottom which read, ‘We have eyeballs. 

‘We’ve seen the video. They executed someone else. I’m not sure how this ends. This is terrifying territory.’

Grande reposted a tweet shared by NYC mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani who wrote, ‘As tens of thousands across America protest the violence that ICE sows with impunity, federal agents shot and killed another personal in Minneapolis today. 

‘ICE terrorizes our cities. ICE puts us all in danger. Abolish ICE.’ 

Teigen also jumped to her Instagram stories to repost a tweet shared by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on X. 

The U.S. representative wrote: ‘Americans are being killed in the street by their government. Our Constitution is being shredded and our rights are dissolving. Resist. 

‘Senate Dems should block ICE funding this week. Activate the National Guard. We can and must stop this.’ 

Teigen – who is marred to singer John Legend – then reposted another post AOC shared to X on Saturday which read, ‘We have a responsibility to protect Americans from tyranny.

‘DHS just shot a man in broad daylight two weeks after they shot a mother in the face without consequence. They need our votes to continue. We cannot give it to them. Every Senator should vote NO.’ 

In another slide, Teigen shared a post uploaded by journalist Molly Jong-Fast on X where she penned, ‘I don’t know how many times this administration can tell us things we saw on video aren’t true.’

Olivia Rodrigo also took to Instagram on Saturday and wrote, ‘ICEs actions are unconscionable but we are not powerless. our actions matter. I stand with Minnesota.’ 

Busy Phillips is another celebrity who spoke out on the shooting and penned in a lengthy caption on Instagram: ‘my god. they will just keep murdering people and lying as long as they can. call your elected representatives. 

‘Take to the streets. boycott the businesses and people that support this,’ the actress encouraged. ‘Vote the people who support this out of office. i don’t know. i’m at a loss.’ 

She later asked her followers how ‘half the country [does] not understand they’re on the wrong side? 

‘How do they not recognize actual evil fueled by abject greed and a desire for unchecked power when it’s right here in front of us? They really don’t get it?’ 

Phillips concluded by adding, ‘Or they really don’t give a f***? Either way, it’s rotten to its core and i guess we just have to keep showing up. We have the numbers for good. i know it.’ 

The White Chicks star also shared additional posts in the slides alongside her message, such as one shared by the user of @quentin.quarantino. 

The post shared an image of Pretti as well as the caption, ‘Alex Pretti, the 37-year-old American citizen executed by Trump’s gestapo today, was an ICU nurse who helped critically ill veterans. 

‘He died protecting a fellow citizen. An American hero was executed in the streets today.’ 

Phillips additionally included a post from @MoveOn which shared: ‘As we can see with our own eyes, Trump’s ICE murdered another person today.’ 

The actress also shared a post from @isaiahmartin who had uploaded an image of Kylie Rittenhouse from 2020 following the shooting of Jacob Blake. 

Martin then wrote: ‘Reminder that Kyle Rittenhouse showed up to a protest like this and Republicans called him a hero.’ 

Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause re-shared a post to her Instagram stories which read: ‘Red State Texas has 2.1M undocumented immigrants. Red State Florida has 1.6M. 

‘Blue State Minnesota has 130,000. Don’t let anyone tell you this is about immigration. It never was.’

Stause then added her own message at the bottom and said, ‘Watching the latest cold blooded ICE murder video is stomach turning. This is INSANITY.’ 

Amelia Gray Hamlin shared a mirror selfie while posing in a bikini and simply added ‘F*** ICE’ over the image. The model also pointed her middle finger up in the reflection of the mirror.  

Julianne Hough reposted an image shared by Evan Ross Katz that showed Pretti taking a photo near a forest. 

A quote added over the picture read: ‘”He wanted to be helpful, to help humanity and have a career that was a force of good in the world.”‘ 

The professional dancer simply added a broken heart emoji underneath the post on her Instagram stories. 

Kaia Gerber reposted a quote from Pretti’s neighbor – which had also been shared by Evan Ross Katz. 

The neighbor had said: “‘Alex was my neighbor. The Alex I want the world to remember was our on the streets yesterday with 50,000 people on general strike in a mass, non-violent protest.

‘He was an ICU nurse, he was a worker like myself, he was part of the fabric of my community along with immigrants and many other people who represent our neighborhood.’

Halsey also reposted the same tweet shared by NYC mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani. 

The singer also shared James Talarico’s post where he typed, ‘They shot Renee Good in the face. 

‘They kidnapped Liam Ramos. They just executed a man on the street. Unmask them. Prosecute them. No more secret police.’ 

Country singer Maren Morris reposted a clip to her Instagram stories of the fatal incident in Minneapolis on Saturday. 

She then added, ‘please scroll if you can’t handle. this shows the angle of the woman in pink filming this man’s execution.’ 

Christie Brinkley also shared a snippet of the moment to her Instagram stories and penned, ‘Happening NOW! They just killed a person protecting our Constitution. 

‘This administration has blood on their hands! Peace Now in the USA! ICE OUT!’ 

Hilary Swank is another celebrity who spoke out on Saturday by sharing a post uploaded by the ACLU. 

The post simply read: ‘ICE OUT OF MINNEAPOLIS NOW ACLU.’
