Taiwanese singer Angela Chang gave fans a scare when she suddenly fell ill during her concert on Aug 23.
The 44-year-old, who is currently on her Play Master concert tour, held two shows in Chengdu on Aug 22 and 23.
Videos of the incident circulating on social media show Angela appearing slightly uncomfortable while performing her song Doesn’t Hurt (2007), as she tugged at her collar and skirt hem.
In another clip, staff members are seen helping Angela during a costume change.
One of them is seen measuring her blood pressure while another fits her with a nasal cannula, a plastic tube used to deliver supplemental oxygen through the nose. A few others are also seen massaging her arms and hands.
Angela is seen tearing up on the venue’s big screen, which later flashes a message that reads, “I’m sorry, please give me three minutes.”
She reportedly returned to the stage after a brief intermission and performed songs such as Invisible Wings (2006) and Big Kid (2025), according to local media.
A later video from the concert shows Angela in a different outfit — a purple sequined two-piece and a headpiece — as she addresses the earlier health scare.
She explained that during the performance, she suddenly felt like her heart “couldn’t take it” and said it might have been due to the heat or her heavy outfit.
“I’m not the kind of girl who likes to cry in front of others and I don’t like showing my vulnerable side. I feel especially sorry for you all who had to sit here, with no idea of what happened, and wait for so long.”
She thanked fans for their concern and said she would continue to do her best, while reassuring them that she would stop if she felt unable to continue.
Angela apologised in a post on social media that same day, writing, “I’m sorry to have worried everyone. A medical team was present throughout my concert, just in case.
“I also underwent a thorough check-up afterwards, and everything is fine now. Thank you for your concern and please don’t worry about me,” she added.
In 2008, Angela was reportedly diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse, a hereditary heart condition. She took a break for several months to seek medical treatment in Canada.
The diva is set to perform next in Guiyang on Aug 29.
