Wayne Carey’s former fiancée Kate Neilson has been lampooned for slamming Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl half-time show for not being ‘American’ enough.

Kate, who was engaged to the former AFL star in the noughties, weighed in on the singer’s all-Spanish performance in a Facebook exchange on Monday.

‘Officially the worst Super Bowl half-time show ever! #BadBunny,’ she wrote on her page.

Some users agreed, with one writing they felt frustrated about the lack of subtitles throughout the broadcast.

Australian-born Kate, an actress who became a US citizen in April last year, agreed with the comment, responding: ‘Very un-American to not have some of it in their native language is what I meant.’

‘It’s hard to understand what any of the lyrics meant unless you speak Spanish,’ she added.

Australian-born Kate, an actress who became an American citizen in April last year, complained that Bad Bunny’s performance was not in English

It should be noted that Lady Gaga performed her portion of the show in English.

One disgruntled user quickly pulled Kate up on the phrase ‘un-American’, pointing out that Puerto Rico – where Bad Bunny is from – remains a territory of the United States and people born there are US citizens by birth.

‘It’s actually very American. Puerto Rico is part of America, and its citizens are American,’ they responded, adding: ‘In fact Kate, those born there are more American than you as an immigrant.’

They went on to discuss the authenticity of Bad Bunny’s performance, as well as its cultural and political significance to American society.

Kate attempted to backtrack after the dressing down, claiming that she was fully aware of America’s geography and simply didn’t enjoy the ‘choreography’.

‘Sorry, I’m not saying Puerto Rico is not in America… I did not like the performance, the choreography or really much about it compared to other performers who have created AMAZING stage shows over the years!’ she commented.

‘It shouldn’t be political either. Some people liked it and a lot of people didn’t… each to their own. I think Lady Gaga was my fav part,’ she added.

The football field at the Levi’s Stadium in California was transformed into a sugarcane plantation and included domino players, a Latino wedding and utility poles for him to climb up to perform.

Bad Bunny, a vocal opponent of Trump’s ICE agency, countries throughout North and South America while holding a football with the words, ‘Together, we are America’ written on it.

A message on the big screen then read: ‘The only thing more powerful than hate is love.’

While fans called it a love letter to Latin and Hispanic culture, the performance angered Donald Trump who called it ‘an affront to the Greatness of America’.

‘Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World’, he said in his excoriating review on Truth Social.

‘It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence’.
