Popular Spanish acting icon Antonio Banderas leads a more quiet and chilled life nowadays in comparison to his heyday, after suffering a heart attack in 2017. The two major cities in Spain that the star now resides offer him luxury and comfort, and are attractive for many, he insists. Read on to find out more, and to see if you may be tempted to relocate!
Malaga
With a highly decorated acting career spanning decades since his first start in acting in the 80s, Banderas remains a highly talked about figure among film buffs. The star was born in Malaga, and still resides in a luxury home in this gorgeous city, where he feels he can wind down, away from the chaos and drama of Hollywood.
The Andalusian city offers the actor a fantastic recluse from the hustle and bustle of other cities, especially as his penthouse is situated in a quiet area, near Alcazaba. The house is engulfed by beautiful gardens and natural scenery, with a Mediterranean sea view serving as the icing on the cake.
Malaga is attractive for any prospective homeowner looking to begin their new life in another location, as its fantastic warm climate does not tend to dip as low in the winter months as other Spanish cities, and the abundance of beaches, as well as the relatively safe nature of the city makes for a perfect destination for anyone.
Residents here indulge in a high quality of life in comparison to many other areas in the country, where they have the choice of a tranquil, seaside atmosphere, with a broad offering of traditional Spanish food, fit for any pallet, or the option of immersive nightlife culture, with popular hotspots such as Marbella only a stone’s throw away.
Malaga is now also seen as somewhat of a technological and innovative hub in Spain, being the site of many important digital developments in recent years. The city is a forefront of AI improvement in Spain, but Malaga still manages to maintain its rustic, authentic vibe, which lures many visitors, year on year.
Madrid
Antonio Banderas first moved to Madrid when he was just 19, for acting opportunities, but since has ensured the Spanish capital is one of his residential bases, noting the fabulous culture and way of life here as just a couple of the reasons to stay.
He lives in one of the most affluent and prestigious areas of Madrid, Retiro, which is home to the renowned Parque del Retiro, an oasis of intoxicating nature which often provides residents and tourists alike with a chance to unwind and escape the stress and pressures of modern city life, whilst still being in close proximity to many of the capital’s busiest amenities.
Madrid is one of the best places to live and work in Spain, and has been voted as one of Europe’s most affordable cities. Its abundance of art, culture, nightlife, fantastic people, as well as being the sporting hub of the country means it is always an attractive proposition for anyone seeking to find a new home.
Madrid has 3.4 million residents, with a whopping 1 million of them being expats, so the international community and diversity of the demographic will strike you the moment you step foot in this city. Anyone can feel at home here, so it is obvious to see why Banderas loves it so much.
Antonio Banderas is most well known and adored for his starring role as the hero in The Mask of Zorro, as well as roles in Desperado, Pain and Glory, among other major films. He currently resides in Malaga, Madrid, and parts of the US with partner Nicole Kimpel, a businesswoman from the Netherlands. Since his heart attack in 2017, he has opted for a life of tranquility.
