A pop-up to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Selena Gomez’s Rare album has been postponed due to the wildfires devastating Los Angeles.
The pop star and actress posted on her Instagram Stories on Thursday, saying: “We are devastated to see the impact the wildfires continue to have on our community in Los Angeles. The safety and the well-being of our team and community are top priorities, and with that in mind, we have decided to postpone Rare: The Pop-Up in partnership with Complex. We’ll share more details and rescheduled dates for the event soon. Thank you for your understanding.”
The event was scheduled for Jan. 10-12. Gomez also posted to her Stories a series of links to evacuation shelters, support for animals and those on the front lines and mental health resources. “As a Los Angeles-based team, our hearts are with California as we face massive wildfires that have threatened communities, displaced families and destroyed homes,” she posted in another Instagram Story.
Rare was released in 2020 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album charts and features the No. 1 hit “Lose You to Love Me.” Rare Beauty, the name of Gomez’s successful cosmetics brand, was inspired by her album.
Several events in Hollywood have been canceled or postponed amid the fires, including nominations for the Academy Awards, where Gomez could land a nod for her role in Emilia Pérez. The nominations unveiling has also been pushed from Jan. 17 to Jan. 19 and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences extended the voting window. Premieres for A Better Man, Unstoppable, The Last Showgirl and Wolf Man were also postponed or canceled.
The homes of numerous stars have been destroyed, including those of Billy Crystal, Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore, Eugene Levy, Anna Faris, Cary Elwes, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, James Woods, Diane Warren, Cameron Mathison and Ricki Lake.
