Ariana Grande and Nicole Kidman created an internet frenzy when they appeared together on the red carpet Friday night in the California desert.
Grande, 31, who won the Rising Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, bowed to the the Oscar winner, 57, and kissed her hand, when the two met in the arrivals area, but that wasn’t what captured fans’ attention.
Instead, they focused on the big height difference between the 5’2′ singer and actress and the statuesque Kidman, who measured 5’11’ in her bare feet.

Kidman, who learned of her mother Janelle Kidman’s death on the same day the film debuted at the Venice Film Festival, became teary as she paid homage to both of her parents, who have passed away.
‘I’ve lost both my parents, and I’m in that place, like, ‘OK, this is different now,’ she told the audience per Variety.
‘They’ve given me resilience, they’ve given me love, and they’ve given me the strength to keep moving forward.’
Jamie Lee Curtis, who had presented her with the honor, held Kidman’s hand to her heart to offer support as the actress concluded ‘I am beyond grateful that I get to say her (mother’s) name to all of you.’

Grande was presented the Rising Star Award by one of her role model’s, Jennifer Coolidge. The veteran star, who has won accolades for her performance as Glinda in Wicked joked about being the new kid on the block.
‘I’ve been performing since I was a child, so I never thought at the age of 31 I’d be hearing the words “rising star” again. So I want to thank my good friends Botox and Juvéderm,’ she said, getting a laugh.
‘I learned early on that laughter was one of our greatest escapes, and I remember the infectious impact it had, not only on the people in my life, but how it fed me in return,’ she explained.
‘Over the past 10 years, when I was solely focused on music, I really missed that feeling. So this truly feels like the beginning of a new chapter. Maybe comedy is just another way of telling the truth.’
