Jude Law finally got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which he initially postponed after grieving the death of his mother, Margaret.
“It’s been actually quite a long process because I found out and was originally going to have the service a couple of weeks back,” Law, 51, told People at the Thursday, December 12, ceremony. “And actually, I lost my mom. So, we had to delay it.”
He added, “In a very odd way as a kind of final gift, it meant that a few more of my family could actually be here. Honestly, the whole event has been quite an emotional experience, and obviously just a very personal occasion and really touching.”
The Order star was joined on Thursday by his wife, Phillipa Coan, and his children Rafferty, 28, and Iris, 24. (In addition to Rafferty and Iris, Law also shares Rudy, 22, with ex-wife Sadie Frost; Sophia, 15, with ex Samantha Burke; Ada, 9, with ex Catherine Harding; and two children with Coan.)
“They were just lovely. I mean, they’re always so supportive and loving,” Law gushed to People. “We are very lucky to have each other, but they’re my backbone.”
In his Walk of Fame speech, Law honored both of his parents.
“I had a mother who showed me the great silent movies and comedies and musicals and dramas of the Hollywood Golden Era, American new wave [and] foreign movies,” Law recalled. “And I had a dad who took me in the ’70s and ’80s to blockbuster movies where we ate our body weight in popcorn and chocolate.”
He also addressed Coan, Rafferty and Iris’ attendance.
“I’ve been very, very lucky to have had a family around me that have lived with and supported my passion for acting and filmmaking,” Law said. “And some of those members of my lovely family are here today. And they know what they mean to me. I love them so much.”
Rafferty has since followed in his dad’s acting footsteps.
“It’s nice because we do have similarities and we are so close, so now that I’m older he can help me work on scripts and I can send him my music and he can say, ‘Yeah, that’s great,’” Rafferty told GQ Hype in 2021. “He’s just happy to see me becoming a young man that he’s proud to call his son.”
He added, “My dad’s my best mate; he and I have always been so close. Like any father and son, growing up I looked up to my dad a lot.”
