Kara Wai will be helming a nine-member jury for NoonTalk Media’s second Golden Singa Awards.
The event, supported by Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and first presented in 2025, is an international film awards ceremony celebrating excellence in Chinese-language film and entertainment.
NoonTalk Media announced on Sept 25 that the 66-year-old Hong Kong veteran actress will be leading a panel that include American actress Shannon Lee, Chinese actors Zhang Songwen and Yu Nan as well as Taiwanese directors Chen Yu-hsun and Lee You-ning.
Film director Peter Pau, music producer Chris Babida and actor Tse Kwan Ho, all from Hong Kong, round up the panel.
Kara, with over five decades of acting experience under her belt, has won accolades from the Golden Horse Awards and Hong Kong Film Awards.
While she is best known for her roles in wuxia films in the 1970s and 1980s, including The Brave Archer (1977) and The Inspector Wears Skirts (1988), she has since portrayed a wide range of characters for films and drama series including Hong Kong court drama Beyond the Realm of Conscience (2009) and Singapore-Malaysia rom-com film The Wedding Diary (2012).
Shannon, 57 and the daughter of late martial arts icon Bruce Lee, is expected to bring an international and cross-cultural perspective shaped by her experience in production and engagement across Eastern and Western creative communities.
Peter, 74, is one of Chinese-language cinema’s most celebrated filmmakers, having won Best Cinematography at the Academy Awards for his wuxia film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000).
Songwen, 50, is known for his performance in films including The Last Tycoon (2013), Ip Man: The Final Fight (2013), as well as drama series The Bad Kids (2020), The Knockout (2023), and A Lonely Hero’s Journey (2024).
You-Ning, whose film The Second Spring of Mr Muo (1984) won Best Feature Film at the 21st Golden Horse Awards, is the former secretary-general of the Golden Horse Film Festival Executive Committee.
The nine members will be travelling to Singapore to participate in the final deliberations across 20 award categories and attend the award ceremony to be held at Resorts World Sentosa Convention Centre on Nov 28.
The nominated films, actors and filmmaking professionals, together with the line-up of award presenters, will be announced in October.
