Taylor Swift appears to apologize to her ex Tom Hiddleston in her new song, “Pink Clouding.”
Fans think the lyrics to the third track from “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore” are about the “Loki” actor, whom the pop star dated for about three months in 2016.
“Pink Clouding” is a phase in early addiction recovery marked by intense feelings of euphoria and optimism.
In the song, Swift, 36, seems to be referring to the thrill that Hiddleston, 45, had for her during their whirlwind relationship.
“And it was so good / Letting you want me / So good / To make promises, promises,” she sings.
In her next verse, she apologizes for how she treated him during their relationship, which came right after she dated Calvin Harris.
“But I was pink clouding from the thrill of it / Skydiving as you wrapped your arms around my body / Gray (Gray) rocking where the arrow hit / Years later, I still wonder how to tell you sorry / I didn’t wanna let you down / So I left you up there on a pink cloud,” Swift sings.
“Pink Clouding” also includes callbacks to “Getaway Car” from her 2017 album “Reputation,” which has references to Hiddleston and them meeting at the 2016 Met Gala.
In “Pink Clouding,” Swift sings, “You met me at a cursed time.” That line seems to echo the “Getaway Car” line, “I knew it from the first Old Fashioned, we were cursed.”
Elsewhere in her new song, Swift seemingly expresses guilt for how she handled her romance with Hiddleston.
“And you were so good / That’s why you haunt me,” she sings, while later belting out, “And I swear to God, to this day / I wake up scared that I left scars on a good person.”
Swift’s fans took to social media to share their “Pink Clouding” theory after the song came out on Friday.
“someone wake up tom hiddleston , taylor swift just apologised to him on main,” one fan wrote on X.
“Having a Taylor Swift song about Tom Hiddleston in the big 2026 feels like sleeping with a cold pillow,” another fan tweeted.
“didn’t expect a hiddleswift apology in the year of 2026 i love her bad,” someone else wrote.
A fourth Swiftie said, “You all don’t know how much I adore that 10 years have passed and Taylor is still writing songs for Tom Hiddleston. The universe knew they were too powerful together and that’s why it took him away from us.”
One month after meeting at the Met Gala in May 2016, Swift and Hiddleston confirmed their romance when they were photographed kissing and holding hands in Rhode Island.
They enjoyed more outings together, including attending Selena Gomez’s concert in Nashville, meeting each other’s parents and taking a trip to Rome, Italy.
During a July 2016 interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Hiddleston insisted the pair’s relationship was “not a publicity stunt.”
“The truth is that Taylor Swift and I are together, and we’re very happy,” the “Avengers” actor said, adding, “That’s the truth.”
But two months later, news broke that the stars had “an amicable split.”
Despite their breakup, Hiddleston has been complimentary of Swift in the past.
“Taylor is an amazing woman. She’s generous and kind and lovely, and we had the best time,” the actor told GQ in February 2017, insisting that their romance was “real.”
Hiddleston has been engaged to British actress Zawe Ashton since 2022. They share two children.
Swift, meanwhile, got married to NFL star Travis Kelce over the summer.
