Reacher star Alan Ritchson is revealing why he hasn’t adapted his favorite book from Lee Child’s Jack Reacher book series yet.
On Friday, the actor and producer responded to a fan on Threads who expressed their disappointment that Prime Video’s Reacher has yet to have a season centered on the 1998 novel Die Trying. “Every season of Reacher so far has been great, and I understand that they may be avoiding the earlier novels due to their slightly less standalone nature, but every year I’m sad to learn that next season won’t be the book where he kills his way through a white supremacist militia camp,” the fan wrote.
However, Ritchson said it wasn’t for lack of trying. “My favorite book. Fun fact: I had it approved until someone got re-elected,” he replied.
While the Playdate actor didn’t specifically name who he was referring to, it’s no secret that he has a strong dislike of Donald Trump, repeatedly criticizing the president publicly. In July, Ritchson slammed Trump over the Epstein files, saying he’s “just saying the shit that everybody should say if they give a shit about humanity.”
During his appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast at the time, the actor called out “the abuses that are happening,” specifically regarding the release of the Epstein files. “Don’t you want to see what’s in there so that we can hold people accountable?” Ritchson asked. “These fucking rapists. We’re just cool with it. That bitch has the keys to the nuclear codes. He’s like all up into 13-year-olds. Like dude, what? Go to jail.”
While the Trump administration has released 3.5 million pages related to the late disgraced Jeffrey Epstein, lawmakers, oversight groups and investigative journalists maintain that there’s still unreleased material and gaps in the documents. In the files released so far, Trump was also directly mentioned roughly 1,000 times, though references in themselves do not equate to wrongdoing.
Die Trying, the second book in Child’s series, centers on Jack Reacher and a politician’s daughter, who are abducted by a radical militia using her as a high-value bargaining chip to secede from the United States and establish their own separate, white-only state in the mountains.
Ritchson also didn’t share which Reacher season he initially got approved to adapt Die Trying for; however, season five, which scored an early renewal ahead of the season four premiere last month, is set to be based on Child’s 12th book, Make Me.
