Frankie Muniz has hit a “low point” after enduring what he described as a “nightmare” six weeks of his life.
The “Malcolm in the Middle” actor took to Instagram Friday to detail what he’s been going through.
“The last 6 weeks of my life have been a nightmare I’m praying to wake up from. Everything [has] felt heavy, unclear, and like it was falling apart at the same time,” he captioned a photo of himself.
“I wouldn’t wish this season on anyone.”
Muniz, 40, said the “unexpected gift” of his recent struggles is that he’s “had nowhere to hide.”
“I’ve had time to sit with myself, do real self-reflection, and finally see the areas of my life that need work if I want to become a better version of me,” he continued. “Not the polished version I show the world … the actual one.”
The Emmy nominee — who reprised his role as Malcolm in the “Malcolm in the Middle” revival series — admitted that he’s hit “rock bottom,” but said reaching that point can be the “thing that wakes you up” and “forces” you to change.
“In five years, I believe I’ll look back at this exact low point and feel grateful for it, because the high I’ll be standing on then only exists because I went through this,” Muniz added.
“This isn’t the end of the story. It’s the part where I start doing the work … the uncomfortable, unglamorous, necessary work,” he continued. “I’m choosing to treat this season as the foundation, not the finish line.”
He concluded his post with a message for anyone going through a difficult time of their own: “If you’re in a low place right now too, you’re not broken. You’re being rebuilt. Let’s keep going!”
Muniz, now a professional stock car racing driver, announced in July that he and his estranged wife, Paige Price, were divorcing after “10 beautiful years together.”
“We’ve grown in way that made us realize our relationship feels most natural and strong as a deep friendship and as co-parents,” he wrote in part in the Instagram announcement, which he deleted shortly after amid backlash.
Muniz and Price, who tied the knot in Phoenix, Arizona, in February 2020, share 5-year-old son Mauz.
“We share an incredible son who remains the center of our world, and we’re both happier, stronger parents because of the love and growth we’ve shared,” he added.
Price, for her part, defended Muniz in the comments section of the since-deleted post after some people criticized him for sharing a video of their family dancing together in their living room while announcing their divorce.
“Frankie, I am so sorry that you felt the need to delete an old funny video of our family because people are so cruel to you. This world is so f–ked,” she wrote at the time.
“Divorce is bad, sure, it’s not like we’re excited about it, but we’re [two] adults who know how to be on the same team. I can’t believe people could scrutinize that.”
