Daniel Wu is launching yet another brand in addition to his design consultancy firm, English academy and cafe.
The American actor, who shot to fame in Hong Kong movies in the late 1990s, revealed on Sept 17 that he has started a furniture brand which will be releasing its first product.
Naming the brand AROX (Architectural Resonance Original Experience), Daniel said he teamed up with manufacturer Moyu to create The Ancor sofa.
He explained in an Instagram video: “I think everyone knows that I’m an actor, but there must be some people who don’t know that I studied architecture in college.
“I started acting immediately after graduation. I never had the opportunity to be an architect. For many years, I’ve always loved design, architecture and furniture.”
Daniel, who turns 52 later this month, shared that his first job was helping his university tutor turn a design into real furniture, adding he felt “so satisfied” completing the work.
He then made his own furniture for his apartment in college — including a bookshelf, bed, tea set and table — and felt that now would be the “perfect timing” to start his own brand with “many great manufacturers” in China.
The Ancor sofa came from his desire to make something that looks good, is comfortable and not too expensive, and will be available in China soon.
Daniel made his acting debut in the 1998 Hong Kong movie Bishonen and has starred in numerous iconic films such as Young and Dangerous: The Prequel (1998), Gen-X Cops (1999) and Love Undercover (2002).
