Dr Ranj Singh’s ex-wife Sulvinder Samra has said her former husband didn’t consult her when he publicly came out as gay.
TV medic and former This Morning star, Dr Ranj 46, made the realisation about his sexuality when he was living with his wife of seven years after having therapy.
Ranj and Sulvinder met in 2003 whilst working together at King’s College Hospital. They married in 2006, but three years into their marriage the TV doctor told his wife he was gay. They eventually divorced in 2011.
He later came out in 2016, and confirmed his romance with personal trainer James Colebrook last year.
The Strictly star recently spoke out about the end of his marriage, on what would have been his 20th wedding anniversary, leading to a war of words with ex Sulvinder.
Sulvinder has now said she was left ‘hurt’ that ‘there was no discussion’ when her ex came out, adding ‘I got to know through friends.’

‘The very first article that I know about was back in 2016, I think. And I wasn’t expecting it… at that time, it hurt. Like, I found it hurtful to me,’ she told the Best Suddenly Single podcast.
She added that she continues to feel hurt that her marriage from her twenties has defined her in many ways, explaining: ‘I just had to get on with life. But unfortunately, if you were to put my name into Google, it was like, is that what I’m about? Is that me?’
She explained that the final year of her marriage ‘had been difficult’ and whilst she didn’t know at that point that her husband was gay ‘it felt like there was a huge disconnect.’
After the split, Sulvinder said ‘I did feel really unattractive. I questioned a lot. You go down this little rabbit hole as a woman, like, well, “why did he fall in love with me? What was it about me that he said he fell in love with?”‘
‘You just question everything. And also, some people don’t always say nice things either behind your back or to your face about the fact that your ex-husband is gay. So, yeah, it was difficult.’
Sulvinder, who works as a nervous system coach for women, deliberately cut off all contact with Dr Ranj after their divorce, revealing she doesn’t know his current partner and blocks him on Instagram to protect her wellbeing.
‘You do the usual things. You block on Instagram and what have you,’ she said. ‘So I don’t know anything about him. All I know is when an article comes out about our marriage, that’s the only time I get to hear of anything or see it myself.
In a May interview with the Big Issue Dr Ranj recalled ending his seven-year marriage, saying his life ‘fell apart’ but that he took solace in finding his ‘chosen family’ within the LGBT community.

In response, Sulvinder shared her side of the story revealing it took years for her to heal from the split and that she battled feeling ‘unattractive, ashamed, and not good enough’.
After being supported by her social media followers, Sulvinder has now questioned her ex-husband’s intentions behind sharing the story, which he has recounted at various points over the years.
Amid the escalating tensions in the wake of his interview, last month Dr Ranj released a lengthy statement on Instagram where he said he never ‘deliberately’ hid anything about himself nor ‘intentionally try to mislead anyone’.
He added that he would never want to ‘diminish’ what him and Sulvinder had and said he looked back on that time and person ‘with nothing but respect, gratitude and kindness.’
Sulvinder met the clinician after he qualified as a doctor at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine in 2003 and they dated for a year before he popped the question.
The couple married in 2005 in a traditional Sikh ceremony, followed by a Western registry and a big reception in the evening.
Their wedding certificate states the venue as Colwich Hall Hotel, the magnificent Georgian pile and ancestral home of Lord Byron, set in 60 acres of parkland, on the outskirts of Nottingham.

The couple moved to London and set up home in a £500,000 flat in East Dulwich, south-east London.
But the relationship disintegrated as Singh slowly came to terms with his sexuality and Sulvinder moved back to Nottinghamshire. They divorced in 2011.

‘It was a feeling akin to my wings finally unfolding and then taking off,’ he told the Big Issue of finding acceptance within the gay community.
‘Yes, I know how cheesy that sounds, but there’s no other way to describe it. I got to discover and celebrate my identity, find my tribe and chosen family in the LGBT+ community, and actually fulfil my passions.’
