Rebel Wilson’s deeply personal revelation about losing her virginity at the age of 35 has been thrust back into the spotlight.
The Pitch Perfect star’s ex-boyfriend Mickey Gooch took to the Broadway stage for an awkward retelling of the moment.
Gooch appeared in the hit comedy revue Celebrity Autobiography at New York’s Shubert Theatre over the weekend where he was stunned to discover he had been cast to perform excerpts from his famous ex-girlfriend’s memoir, Rebel Rising.
Among the passages read aloud was Wilson’s now-famous account of her losing her virginity to Gooch during their six-month romance in 2015.
Comedian Kathy Griffin delivered the intimate chapter, titled Late Bloomer, while Mickey stood beside her on stage, reacting in real time as she read explicit passages detailing their relationship.
Looking directly at Gooch, Griffin read Wilson’s cheeky words: ‘Micks, I know this might be news to you if you are reading this, but yes, I lost my virginity to you. And a great shag you were.’

The audience erupted with laughter as Gooch interjected with jokes throughout the performance, despite learning only shortly before curtain-up that he would be revisiting one of the most talked-about chapters of Wilson’s memoir.
The reading recounted the pair’s whirlwind romance after they were introduced by one of Wilson’s Pitch Perfect co-stars.
Griffin described their first date at Gooch’s Malibu mansion, complete with an ocean-view swimming pool, squash court and steam room, before reading Wilson’s admission that she found it ‘very sexy’ when he cooked a barbecue for her.
The live performance also revisited the moment Wilson decided she was ready to finally have sex while filming How to Be Single in New York.
Griffin then delivered the details of the milestone moment directly from the page.
‘And then, you guys, it just happened. I finally had sex. I go to the bathroom, I high-five myself. I’m so happy I finally had sex,’ she said.
‘And with somebody I really like and really feel safe with at the lovely Greenwich Hotel. Oh, and fun fact, Mickey – this hotel is actually owned by Robert De Niro.’
Wilson first made headlines in April 2024 when Rebel Rising was released, revealing she had waited until 35 before having sex because she wanted the experience to happen with someone she felt safe with.

The Australian actress and Gooch dated for several months in 2015 after being introduced by mutual friends, and later appeared together in How to Be Single in New York.
Since then, Rebel has married fashion designer Ramona Agruma.
The couple tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Sardinia in 2024 after welcoming daughter Royce via surrogate.
Gooch appeared to take the entire Broadway experience in good humour.
‘It was a pretty surreal way to make my Broadway debut,’ he joked afterwards.
‘I guess I popped my Broadway cherry, literally.’
The performance formed part of the long-running Celebrity Autobiography production, which features celebrities performing humorous verbatim readings from famous memoirs, often with little warning about whose autobiography they will be reading.
