Oprah Winfrey has explained that her “90-year-old walk” at Paris Fashion Week earlier this month was because she couldn’t see properly.
“On the internet, somebody was…you know how people drag you on the internet. So they were dragging me and Gayle saying, ‘Look at them walking like they’re 90 years old,’” Oprah said during a recent appearance, per a clip shared by Instagram user @jznotthatjayz on Friday — and later re-shared by the talk show icon herself.
“And so there was a moment where we’re walking into the Chloe fashion show and my [assistant] had just handed me the Chloe sunglasses before I got out of the car,” she continued, noting that she “wears glasses or contacts” and that the couture shades “were not prescription glasses.”
She confessed with a laugh, “I didn’t know where I was walking, I could not see.”
“So everybody who’s saying ‘you’re walking like you’re 90,’ I could not see!” she explained, recalling that she told security, ‘I can’t see. I can’t see. Tell me, tell me where I’m walking. I can’t see.’”
She hilariously added that longtime pal Gayle King, who was walking alongside her, said, “I got two broken toes. I can’t walk.”
She concluded, “And that’s the reason we looked like we were 90 years old.”
“Oprah saw all your comments about her walking,” Instagram user Joseph Zambrano wrote atop the clip, captioning it, “And there you have it 🤣”
Footage from the March 4 show at the Tennis Club de Paris showed the author, 72, carefully taking small steps as she arrived, rocking the sleek sunglasses, a cropped yellow jacket and jeans. She finished the look with a pair of low heels.
King, 71, trailed behind her walking carefully in a black leather blazer and rust colored slacks.
“OK, this is the first time we Oprah seems old,” one person remarked on the TikTok clip shared by Paris Match. “They are both in their 70’s,” another noted, adding, “I think Oprah looks great.”
But others speculated that Winfrey’s use of weight loss medications — which she’s admitted to using to achieve weight loss — was the cause of the seemingly disoriented gait.
“Ozempic working even when ur not,” one TikTok user said, with another chiming in, “What in the Ozempic is going on here 😳”
The TV personality — who previously shaded use of GLP-1s for weight loss — revealed in 2023 that she used an unspecified weight loss medication as part of her ongoing health journey.
“I now use it as I feel I need it, as a tool to manage not yo-yoing,” she told People in December 2023.
“The fact that there’s a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for,” she continued.
She added, “I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself.”
