Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is releasing a cover of David Bowie’s classic “Heroes” to commemorate the upcoming 50th season of Survivor.
The song, which released Friday morning, comes a month before Survivor season 50 is set to start on February 25. Armstrong performed the cover with his son Jakob, and it plays in the latest promo trailer for Survivor 50, which THR can exclusively debut.
The Armstrongs’ cover is just the latest high-profile showcase of Bowie’s classic on the screen after the song soundtracked the Stranger Things series finale earlier this month. Other than the survivor collab, Armstrong and Bay Area natives Green Day will be performing during the opening ceremony for the Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara in February.
Survivor‘s 50th season will feature 24 returning competitors, which will include White Lotus creator Mike White alongside other returning players from the previous 49 seasons including Cirie Fields, Colby Donaldson and Dee Valladares. Season 50 is set to showcase some celebrity appearances from the likes of Zac Brown, Billie Eilish, Mr. Beast and Jimmy Fallon, as revealed in a trailer last month.
Host and executive producer Jeff Probst spoke with THR in December about season 50, promising a season unlike any other that’s aired from the show for the past 25 years.
“It gives you a sense of the scale, the vibe, the unpredictability, all the things that make 50 feel like its own event,” Probst said. “It captures the energy we’ve been building toward for a long time.”
