Timothy Busfield opened up about his sex life with wife Melissa Gilbert during a psychosexual evaluation following his recent arrest for alleged child sex abuse.
According to court documents filed on Friday, January 16, and obtained by Us Weekly, the “comprehensive” assessment took place at the recommendation of Busfield’s attorney. Dr. Leandrea Romero-Lucero, a licensed provider and certified sex offender treatment specialist, determined that Busfield, 68, “does not appear to have a sexual attraction to prepubescent or adolescent males or females.”
Busfield was classified as having “very low risk” of committing sexual offenses compared to those convicted of similar actions. The report explains, however, that “risk of committing sexual offenses is not reflective of the level of harm that may have been experienced by the alleged victim.”
Dr. Romero-Lucero found that Busfield was “forthcoming in his responses” throughout the evaluation “despite the sensitive nature of the questions.”
Along with discussing his friendships and favorite family traditions, Busfield revealed he lost his virginity at age 16. He shared further details about his relationship with Gilbert, 61, who he married in 2013.
“Mr. Busfield reports he and his current wife have a satisfying sex life and at their ages they simply enjoy one another’s company and cuddling more often than engaging in sexual intercourse,” the documents read. “Mr. Busfield’s wife confirms his statements about a satisfying sexual relationship between them.”
Busfield also noted that he last masturbated “approximately 6 months ago” and claimed he “has never found [porn] to be sexually satisfying.”
The report indicated that Gilbert stated “the use of pornography within their relationship has never been discussed between them and there have never been any concerns related to the use of pornography by Mr. Busfield.”
Busfield was previously married to Radha Delamarter, with whom he shares son Wilson, from 1981 to 1986. He was later married to second wife Jennifer Merwin from 1988 to 2007, welcoming daughter Daisy and son Sam.
According to the documents, Busfield’s first marriage was “integral in shaping his sexual identity and values” due to his age difference with Delamarter, who is nine years his senior.
“Mr. Busfield reports his first wife was very sexually experienced and in retrospect realizes it may have been more appropriate for him to be with someone who was at the same developmental level as him,” the report notes.
Gilbert, meanwhile, called her marriage to Busfield “one of mutual respect and love,” describing the West Wing alum as “a very affectionate man.”
Busfield is facing two counts of sexual abuse involving a minor and one count of child abuse in relation to alleged incidents involving twin child actors on the set of Fox’s The Cleaning Lady between 2022 and 2024.
A warrant was issued for Busfield’s arrest earlier this month. He surrendered to police on January 13 but has continued to deny the allegations against him.
“I’m going to confront these lies. They’re horrible. … I’m going to fight it. I’m going to fight it with a great team, and I’m going to be exonerated. I know I am because this is all so wrong and all lies,” he claimed in a video shared with TMZ.
Busfield did not enter a plea when he appeared in court in New Mexico on Wednesday, January 14. The Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office stated in a subsequent press conference that Busfield could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
