Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show is now less than a month away, but fans are perplexed by one detail: a height requirement to participate in the gig.
Two different hiring notices for on-field roles in the show have appeared online, and both specify that shorter fans need not apply. Applications for the field team (now closed) noted that potential hires needed to be between 5-foot-7 and 6 feet tall. A second notice for the “field cast” was even stricter, asking for applicants between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot-1.
Petite fans of the Puerto Rican superstar, 31, weren’t too pleased by the strange requirement, with one X user writing, “Finding out I don’t meet the height requirement to be part of the Superbowl Halftime Show with Bad Bunny is some of the worst news to start the year with.” Another disappointed fan added, “Damm bad bunny having 5’7 height requirements 🥲there goes my chances.”
According to the field team’s application site, members of that group are “part of the core team responsible for on-field assembly and disassembly of the halftime show stage.” The field cast, meanwhile, will seemingly appear on stage alongside Bad Bunny.
“Field Cast will be on the field as performers in the halftime show, learning and executing blocking and movement alongside the headlining artist,” reads the job description provided by Backlit LLC. “This is a disciplined role that requires focus, athleticism and commitment as part of one of the most-watched live productions in the world.”
The description goes on to note that the field cast will not be dancing but “will be performing structured movements and blocking as part of the larger production.”
While it’s not clear what exactly the field cast will be doing, the description asks for applicants with a “marching arts background” who have participated in “marching band, color guard, drill team or similar” events. Some famous drill teams do have height requirements; the United States Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon, for example, requires participants to stand between 5-foot-11 and 6-foot-1.
Though some fans may be hoping to fudge their heights on the applications, a representative for Backlit told USA Today on Monday, January 12, that “height requirements will be very important for participation on this one and will be verified through the rehearsal process.”
It seems that producers are looking for participants who are roughly the same height as Bad Bunny, who is 5-foot-11. The Grammy winner was announced as the halftime show headliner in September 2025. While the news sparked backlash among some conservative commentators, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell defended the choice during a press conference in October 2025.
“We’re confident it’s going to be a great show,” Goodell, 66, said at the time. “He understands the platform that he’s on, and I think it’s going to be exciting and a united moment.”
He noted that the decision was “carefully thought through,” adding, “I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback or criticism. It’s pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching.”
