It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas on Peacock — except for all of the Saw movies, which were inexplicably scheduled to join the streamer a few days ago.
Since this will be the last weekend before Christmas, we’re going to go with some unconventional holiday picks.
The Watch With Us team has put together our roundup of the three great Peacock movies to binge-watch this weekend.
Our selections include both a Christmas rom-com and a holiday action flick, as well as an epic tale that’s been shared for centuries.
‘Die Hard’ (1988)
Is it really the holiday season if a bad guy isn’t falling from Nakatomi Plaza? Holiday movie purists may not like the idea of Die Hard as a Christmas flick, but we love it. On Christmas Eve in 1988, John McClane (Bruce Willis) is bringing the holiday cheer. There’s nothing quite like a gift machine gun in the middle of a crisis, and Santa McClane is going to need it this holiday season. His estranged wife, Holly Gennaro-McClane (Bonnie Bedelia), is being held hostage at the Nakatomi holiday party by international terrorists.
Alan Rickman‘s Hans Gruber is the perfect Grinch-like foil for John, as he and his team pursue a hidden agenda while keeping the LAPD at bay. John’s not the type to wait around forever for backup. And if he wants to bring his wife home to their kids, he’s going to have to pull off a holiday miracle and take down Hans’ team by himself. Now if only some elf would give John a new pair of shoes for Christmas…

‘Just Friends’ (2005)
Just Friends is a Christmas rom-com about a pair of former best friends, Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds) and Jamie Palamino (Amy Smart). In high school, they were inseparable pals who were never romantic, largely because Chris was overweight. After feeling humiliated when his true feelings were exposed to their classmates, Chris vowed never to return.
Years later, Chris is a record executive with a pop star, Samantha James (Anna Faris), who will happily date him if it helps her career. Through an unforeseen series of events, Chris and Samantha wind up in his hometown and reunite with Jamie. But even after decades away, Chris just can’t seem to make Jamie see him as anything more than just a friend, and their slim window of opportunity is rapidly closing.

‘Troy’ (2004)
We’ll have to wait until next summer to see Christopher Nolan‘s take on The Odyssey, but the preceding story of the Trojan War in The Iliad was adapted two decades ago as Troy. Brad Pitt was near his physical peak when he played Achilles, a skilled warrior for the Greeks during their conflict with Troy. Prince Paris (Orlando Bloom) of Troy started the conflict when he stole the heart of Helen (Diane Kruger), the queen of Sparta. That gave Agamemnon (Brian Cox) all the justification he needed to unite his country against Troy.
There are no gods to guide the destiny of these characters, but events from the myth largely play out as depicted in The Iliad. No matter what, Troy’s days are numbered. The real question is who will fall with the city and which heroes will emerge among the remaining survivors.
