The official trailer for You season five shows that even having seemingly the perfect life still isn’t enough for Joe Goldberg.
In the fifth and final season of Netflix‘s hit show starring Penn Badgley as Joe, he returns to New York City, where the first season took place. But this time, he’s married to Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), and with that comes plenty of family drama, as teased in the newly-released trailer (below).
“Hello, you. You’re back in the greatest city in the world thanks to the one person [Kate] who could make it possible,” Joe says. “Fame definitely took a bit of getting used to, but to live happily ever after you had to bury your old self.”
However, sometimes, just because you bury something, doesn’t mean it will stay buried forever.
While Joe still struggles to escape his dark desires and violent tendencies (“You have a great life. It’s just not worth the risk,” Joe says as a new potential love interest is shown in the footage), the new trailer also teases that people from his past are coming for revenge.
“You want us to kill everyone who’s suspicious of us for the rest of our lives?” Kate asks as Joe responds, “Is that so wrong if it’s for the right reasons?”
“At heart, I am a normal guy,” Joe says as the dramatic trailer concludes. “As for you, we’re not done with each other yet.”
Season five of You also stars Madeline Brewer, Anna Camp, Amy-Leigh Hickman and Griffin Matthews. “In the epic fifth and final season, Joe Goldberg returns to New York to enjoy his happily ever after… until his perfect life is threatened by the ghosts of his past and his own dark desires,” the show’s season five logline reads.
The new season premieres on Netflix on April 24.
