Last week’s episode of The White Lotus was actually more dangerous than it looked.
Walton Goggins went on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday and shared how his biggest fear of getting bit by snake happened to him while filming the HBO show’s third season.
Goggins admitted he is “terrified” of snakes. “I don’t just have a phobia, it’s like a missing link when it comes to snakes … there’s something, like, genetically wrong with me when it comes to snakes,” he told Kimmel.
During last week’s episode, Rick (Goggins) gets high and starts opening cages, trying to free snakes at a snake farm. It turns out one snake bites his girlfriend, Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood), who is then rushed off to the hospital. But in real life, the opposite actually happened.
While shooting the scene, the snake handlers identified which snakes by color were poisonous and told Goggins not to touch them.
“As I was pulling the snake out, he didn’t want to come, right? And so the snake turns around and he bit me. I haven’t told that story to anybody,” Goggins recalled.
He explained how he wishes “could have been cool” with his reaction, but instead, he began yelling, “Oh my God, I’ve been bit by a snake!”
After that happened, the Fallout star continued to film for the rest of the day. However, the next day he received a call from a producer on the series saying, “‘Hey, you know what, we’ve been thinking about it and I don’t know, we’re thinking maybe you should go to the hospital.’ I said, ‘for what? You said the snake was non-venomous, right? Am I dying like a slow death?’”
Goggins ended up receiving a shot as a precaution.
