“Emilia Pérez” co-stars Selena Gomez and Karla Sofía Gascón reunited at the 2025 Oscars just weeks after the latter’s controversial tweets were unearthed.
The two women came face-to-face on Sunday for the first time since Gascón allegedly called Gomez “a rich rat” in a 2022 post.
Despite the diss, they both put on a brave face for the evening, with Gascón going up to Gomez before the show began.
In the now-viral moment, Gascón, 52, was seen walking over to Gomez, 32, and the “Only Murders in the Building” star’s fiancé, Benny Blanco.
Gomez, who dazzled in a rose gold gown, rose to greet Gascón and awkwardly kissed her on the cheek before sitting back down.
The seemingly cordial — yet undeniably tense — exchange took many fans by surprise given their history.
Sunday’s show marked Gascón’s first public appearance in the US since her tweet scandal.
While she tried to stay under the radar by not walking the red carpet, host Conan O’Brien didn’t let her off the hook that easily.
The late-night legend, 61, poked fun at the situation during his opening monologue — despite the best actress nominee being in the crowd.
“‘Anora’ uses the F-word 479 times,” O’Brien said. “That’s three times more than the record set by the publicist of Karla Sofía Gascón. ‘You tweeted what?’”
Although the audience laughed, cameras didn’t show Gascón’s reaction as O’Brien continued on.
“Karla, if you are going to tweet about the Oscars, remember my name is Jimmy Kimmel,” he jokingly added.
Gascón’s awards campaign was cut short after her old tweets about Muslims, George Floyd and diversity at the 2021 Academy Awards resurfaced in late January.
The since-deleted uploads — which spanned from May 2016 to April 2023 — were screenshotted and shared online after Oscar nominations were announced. (While Gascón got a best actress bid, the award ultimately went to Mikey Madison for “Anora.”)
Internet sleuths also discovered an alleged tweet in which she slammed Gomez’s rumored feud with ex Justin Bieber’s wife, Hailey Bieber, according to the Latin Times.
“She’s a rich rat who plays the poor bitch whenever she can and will never stop bothering her ex-boyfriend and his wife,” she allegedly wrote alongside a photo of Gomez and Hailey reuniting at the Annual Academy Museum Gala in October 2022.
While Gascón apologized for her hateful remarks, she later claimed the tweet about Gomez was fake.
Regardless, the “Wizards of Waverly Place” alum recently admitted that “some of the magic” of working with Gascón “has disappeared” after the scandal.
“But I choose to continue to be proud of what I’ve done, and I’m just grateful,” the Golden Globe nominee said.
“I live with no regrets,” she added, “and I would do this movie over and over again if I could.”
