Keke Palmer may have an extensive acting resume ranging from her own Nickelodeon show to horror films and buddy comedies, but that doesn’t mean she wants to do everything.
The Emmy winner recently opened up to The Independent about why she’s “always been reluctant to do nudity” on screen in movies or television shows.
“Just because I’m so shy and, you know, embarrassed,” Palmer admitted. “And to know that people are going to be able to have [those scenes] forever? I could never have the confidence to do something like that! I’m not that bold.”
However, many would probably disagree with the One of Them Days star’s latter point about not being “that bold,” as she has gone viral numerous times for her comedic timing, iconic catchphrases and memeable moments. But for Palmer, she looks at herself in a bit of a different light.
“On a deep level, I think I’ve always been the kind of person that’s felt very lonely or had these big emotions,” she explained. “And I always say that people who are considered comedians, or people that make people laugh, they’re not necessarily seen as serious. Usually, though, they’re the ones with the deepest feelings of all, and it’s that humor that’s helping them get through.”
Having worked in the industry since she was a child, the Nope actress has learned a thing or two over the years. She recalled her co-star William H. Macy in The Wool Cap once telling her, “‘You don’t need to think about the whole movie — you’ve got to take it just one scene at a time.’” Not only does she apply that advice to her work but also to her personal life.
Palmer added, “When I’m overwhelmed or worried about what I’m going to do, I just focus on what’s in front of me, do it to the best of my ability, and then move on from there.”
