Kieran Culkin won the award for best actor in a supporting role Sunday night at the 2025 SAG Awards.
Pamela Anderson presented Culkin with the statue, which he noted was an “incredibly heavy award” before poking fun at the length of Adrien Brody’s acceptance speeches. “I don’t think anyone could hold this for 45 seconds, which would be a lot of time, Adrien Brody,” he quipped. “There was no reason to take that shot. I love you, it’s a joke, you take your time.”
Culkin continued his comedic approach throughout his acceptance speech, joking that “Believe it or not, [winning] this actually means a lot to me” before giving thanks to Jesse Eisenberg and most importantly Eisenberg’s sister, Hallie, for entrusting him with the role of Benji Kaplan in A Real Pain.
“For those of you who don’t know, [Jesse] cast me in this movie without auditioning me or seeing my work in anything ever,” Culkin explained. “But he cast me because his sister told him to. … So thank you Jesse for putting me in this movie, but I wanna take a moment to thank your sister Hallie. Thank you Hallie for thinking of me and putting my name in your stupid brother’s ear.”
His win at the 2025 SAG Awards came a day after he won the award for supporting performance at the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday. Culkin was nominated alongside the likes of Jonathan Bailey for his role of Fiyero in Wicked, Yura Borisov as Igor in Anora, Edward Norton as Pete Seeger in A Complete Unknown and Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn in The Apprentice. Notably, four of the SAG Award nominees — Borisov, Culkin, Norton and Strong — also received nods at the 2025 Oscars for their portrayal of their individual supporting characters.
Culkin joined the SAG Awards 2025 winning circle among the likes of Zoe Saldaña, Jean Smart, Jessica Gunning, Colin Farrell, Martin Short, Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai. Heading into Sunday night, Wicked and Shogun dominated the nomination list with five nods each. Following closely behind was A Complete Unknown with four noms and Emilia Pérez and Anora with three noms each. All four of the films were nominated alongside Conclave for the SAG Awards‘ top prize of best cast.
The 2025 SAG Awards were hosted by Kristen Bell on Sunday night and streamed live on Netflix. Aside from hosting, Bell was also notably nominated for best actress in a comedy series for Nobody Wants This.
