The world of Dexter is continuing to expand. Uma Thurman is set to star with Michael C. Hall in the franchise’s next series, Dexter: Resurrection.
Thurman will play the series regular role of Charley, the head of security for mysterious billionaire Leon Prater. A former Special Ops officer, Charley worked various high-level private security jobs before taking on her position as the resourceful and meticulous right-hand woman for Prater, per the character description.
Dexter: Resurrection stars Hall as titular serial killer Dexter Morgan; he will also be narrator, as he was in the previous series. Paramount+ with Showtime already announced three familiar faces also among the cast: David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista, friend and co-worker to Dexter; James Remar as Dexter’s deceased father, Harry Morgan; and Jack Alcott, who played Dexter’s son Harrison Morgan in Dexter: New Blood.
Dexter: Resurrection is currently in production in New York and is set to premiere in the summer on Paramount+ with Showtime.
Showrunner Clyde Phillips previously explained to The Hollywood Reporter how all of the shows in the franchise connect. Dexter: Resurrection, he said, should be seen “the next season” to Dexter: New Blood, the revival series that aired in 2021 after flagship series Dexter went off the air in 2013.
In between New Blood and the forthcoming Resurrection sits Dexter: Original Sin, the currently airing prequel series that flashes back to a young Dexter Morgan (played by Patrick Gibson) to provide his origin story on becoming the serial killer inhabited by Hall in present-day. The opening to Original Sin served as the connecting piece between New Blood and Resurrection when it — literally — resurrected Hall’s Dexter, bringing him back to life after he was shot and seemingly left for dead in the New Blood finale.
Zayas appeared in both the original Dexter and New Blood; Remar hails from the flagship series. The characters’ younger version in Original Sin are played by James Martinez and Christian Slater, respectively.
Oscar and Emmy nominee Thurman is known for memorable roles across film and TV, including Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Smash and Hysterical Blindness. She recently starred in the films Red, White and Royal Blue, Oh Canada and The Kill Room, and will next be seen in a starring role in Ballerina Overdrive.
Dexter: Resurrection is executive produced by Emmy nominee Phillips, who returns as showrunner; and is produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios. Hall executive produces along with Scott Reynolds, Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns, with Marcos Siega as producing director. Monica Raymund will direct four episodes; Siega will direct six. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
