90 Day Fiance star Jenny Slatten has revealed her battle with ALS.
Slatten, 68, and her husband, Sumit Singh, 38, announced the diagnosis in an interview with People – where they revealed the timeline of the symptoms and the moment that truly sparked concern.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to loss of muscle control and paralysis as it gets worse over time, per the Mayo Clinic.
The symptoms first began appearing in December 2024 when Singh recalled she had choked on drinking water ‘badly’. An official diagnosis was reached a year later.
Singh said Slatten began suffering from migraines and struggled to swallow pills after the choking incident before her speech became impacted.
Slatten’s speech slowed down and she began avoiding conversations with others and talking at all.

‘That’s when we knew something was wrong,’ she said.
The issue became even more apparent when Slatten traveled to New York City for a 90 Day Fiance holiday party, where her speech continued to slow down.
An interview she did also sparked health concerns from fans.
Singh initially suspected his wife was sleep-deprived but a commenter raised the possibility of ALS, prompting him to research the disease.
‘And then I find out that these symptoms she was having — this is what it looks like,’ Singh said.
Slatten’s father had also died of ALS, a fact that dawned on them after the possibility of the disease came up.
Slatten returned to India and eventually learned she indeed had ALS after speaking with multiple doctors.
The couple ‘cried and held each other’ when they learned she had the disease, Slatten said.
Slatten and Singh are now seeking treatments for the incurable illness, and doctors have told them that the progression of Slatten’s illness is ‘slow’, according to Singh.
Slatten is now in India and says she is well.

‘I don’t want to be treated any different,’ she said. ‘Let’s just live our life as we have been while we can.’
The ordeal has also brought the couple even closer together: ‘Honestly, I never felt this much love, or I can love anyone this much,’ Sumit told the publication.
‘I used to … live for myself. But from [the] last so many years, I feel like doing [things] for someone who you love gives you happiness, I think that’s what love is. And that’s why we do things for each other, and that’s what make each other happy.’
‘And we’re happy that we’re together,’ Slatten said.
Slatten and Singh were introduced to fans on the first season of 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way in 2019, which flipped the script on the original show, with Americans travelling to another country for a 90-day engagement.
Slatten and Singh, a native of New Delhi, India, finally tied the knot after three seasons worth of complications, on the season finale of the show in 2021.

The pair had been dating since 2013, but due to visa restrictions, she could only stay in India for six months at a time before heading back to America until they tied the knot.
They had a HIndu-style wedding which Singh’s astrologer finally approved of at the last minute.
‘We don’t know what our future holds,’ Jenny said at the time. ‘The only thing we know is that we’re happy together and we’re living our life the way that we want to.’
In 2023, Slatten shared a series of photos on Instagram from her life in India with Sumit.
The star, who has a 30-year age gap with her husband, captioned the post, ‘We have each other and we’re happy together who cares what anyone thinks.’
She also featured an audio clip that said, ‘If something is making you happy, and you’re comfortable with it, and it’s working, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. The truth of the matter is, you can’t please everybody.’
They will be returning to small screens in 90 Day: The Last Resort on June 1.
