At the end of season 4, Emily in Paris saw its titular lead, marketing executive Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), swap Paris for a new life in Italy as the head of L’Agence Grateau Rome while living with her handsome man, Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini). And, yes, since the show is called Emily in Paris and not “Emily in Italy,” series creator Darren Star has in fact promised fans that this new season will be “a tale of two cities.” All in all, a shake-up in locale might be just what the show (and Emily) needs. 

Is Emily in Paris the best-written show out there? No, it isn’t, but it doesn’t have to be. The show succeeds as pure eye-candy fantasy: beautiful people, beautiful locations and beautiful fashion, but it also has charming, absurd moments and genuinely likable characters. Don’t come here if you’re looking for intelligent drama, but don’t underestimate Emily, either — the show is the perfect romantic escape from reality.
