The Oscar winners weren’t the only ones shocked Sunday night.

While A-list actors, directors and producers gathered across Los Angeles for Hollywood’s biggest night, a preliminary 3.9-magnitude earthquake hit the North Hollywood area around 10:13 p.m. PT, according to the USGS.

While most of the action for the 2025 Oscars was taking place at the center of Hollywood, along the famous Hollywood Boulevard where the Dolby Theatre is located, the quake could still be felt across Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. The earthquake occurred just hours after the Oscars wrapped up; however, most stars are still out and about at afterparties.

A source tells The Hollywood Reporter that Chappell Roan was onstage performing at the 33rd Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards viewing party when the quake hit, though no one inside appeared to notice the shaking. Another source on the red carpet at the Governors Ball, the exclusive party after the Academy Awards, said the quake could be felt by people in attendance there.

There were no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries, KABC reported.

The 97th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, were held Sunday at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. Anora was the night’s big winner, taking home five awards, including best picture. As for the acting nods, Adrien Brody won best actor for The Brutalist, Mikey Madison scored best actress for Anora, Kieran Culkin won best supporting actor for A Real Pain and Zoe Saldaña scored best supporting actress for Emilia Pérez.
