Local actress Zoe Tay’s second son Ashton turned 19 yesterday (Sept 23) and she wrote an emotional social media post with advice for the teenager.
Zoe, 58, is married to former Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) pilot Philip Chionh, also 58, and they have two other sons Brayden, 21, and Nathan, who turns 16 next month.
“In the blink of an eye, you have grown from that little boy who needs mum to hold your hands to a big boy with his own dreams and direction,” said Zoe in her post.
She said being 19 is the best age in a person’s youth, and she feels “relieved and emotional”.
“Mum is really proud watching you grow up bit by bit, learning to be independent and responsible and slowly becoming a better person,” she reflected.
There’s still a long road ahead and Zoe hopes Ashton will bravely chase his dreams, stay kind and grateful and remember this: “Mum’s love is always here no matter how far you go.”
She added watching him grow up has filled her heart with pride “but also a little sadness”.
“I miss the little boy you once were. No matter how grown you become, you’ll always be my little boy. Love you always.”
Zoe, who has kept from sharing photos of her children, posted some shots of herself with Ashton on their travels but with his face only partially seen in a few.
Last week, she celebrated her 31st wedding anniversary with Chionh and looked back on their relationship.
“A choice made 31 years ago and still holding onto firmly – Making the choice isn’t hard, but sticking with it is the real test,” she wrote in an Instagram post.
“Watching you put on weight, watching myself grow wrinkled — well, it’s alright; we’re even, so we might as well just muddle through and carry on together. Happy anniversary.”
