After making an announcement of the film Operation Sindoor, director Uttam Maheshwari has issued a public apology. For the unversed, the director has been slammed for the timing of the project’s announcement. The poster of film Operation Sindoor – which has been inspired by India’s most expansive cross-border strike in retaliation against the horrific Pahalgam terror attack – was dropped on May 9. Uttam Maheshwari has now put out a statement on social media and mentioned that the motive behind the film wasn’t to hurt anyone.
“My sincere apologies for recently announcing a film based on Operation Sindoor, inspired by the recent heroic efforts of our Indian Armed Forces. The intent was never to hurt or provoke anyone’s sentiments,” director Uttam Maheshwari had written in his statement. While talking about motivated him, he explained, “I was moved by the courage, sacrifice, and strength of our soldiers and leadership, and simply wished to bring this powerful story to light.”
Maheshwari had further clarified that the film was created not with the motive to gain fame or money. Instead, the decision was made out of respect and love for the nation. “However, I understand the timing and sensitivity may have caused discomfort or pain to some. For that, I deeply regret,” he said.
He also used the post to mention that the film stood as an emotion and not a cinematic venture. He added, “This is not just a film, it’s an emotion of the entire nation and a social image of the country globally.”
Under Operation Sindoor, which had lasted for 25 minutes, the Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes on nine terror bases in Pakistan and PoK on the night of May 6-7. The poster was shared by several paparazzi accounts with the common caption that read, “Nicky Vicky Bhagnani Films & The Content Engineer collaborate together for India’s bravest strike-based film ‘Operation Sindoor”. Uttam Maheshwari will direct the film.
After producer Nicky Bhagnani had made an announcement that he’d be making a film titled Operation Sindoor, Puja Entertainment had issued an official statement wherein it clarified that producers Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani are not involved in the project. The statement mentioned, “We would like to address the recent news reports and social media chatter regarding a film titled ‘Operation Sindoor’. Mr Vashu Bhagnani & Mr Jackky Bhagnani are not associated with this project in any capacity, whatsoever.”
Just minutes after the poster was unveiled, social media went wild. Netizens were quick to slam the makers for announcing the film. A netizen wrote, “Actors and celebrities don’t have the guts to say anything publicly and they just want to mint money by making a movie on this . Wow brilliant.” Next comment read, “Shame on you and all of bollywood for making everything a capitalist opportunity! Operation Sindoor has not even been completed and you’re out here trying to take advantage of the worrying situation. Praying for karma to teach you a good lesson ???” Another comment read, “Milking an ongoing war, with an AI generated poster. This is as dystopian as it gets”.
