Finn grew up in Wilmette, Illinois, and in 1987 he graduated from Marquette University, where he became good friends with Chris Farley. They played on the school rugby team and were roommates.

He became a member of The Second City’s National Touring Company along with his buddy Farley, and together they performed in their shows in Chicago.

The experience helped Finn to perfect his improv skills and it soon led to breakout roles in The George Wendt Show and Murphy Brown.

But Finn is perhaps best known for his role in the ABC sitcom The Middle.

The show starred Patricia Heaton and Neil Flynn as middle-class, middle-aged and middle-income couple Frankie and Mike Heck and revolved around the daily chaos and humor of raising three kids.

Finn played their friend Bill Norwood from 2011 to 2018, a friendly, neighborly guy who liked to watch the Colts with Mike.

Finn also had brief roles in the movies Dude, Where’s My Car?, How High, I Love You, Beth Cooper, and Dealin’ with Idiots. His last role was in the 2021 romantic comedy Funny Thing About Love.

Though it hasn’t been revealed what type of cancer Finn passed away from, he reportedly was diagnosed with bladder cancer several years ago, per TMZ.
