The Macallan’s James Bond partnership continues with a limited release of its Diamonds Are Forever 55th Anniversary bottle, following the distillery’s 2022 James Bond 60th Anniversary series. The newly unveiled single malt Scotch whisky draws direct inspiration from the movie’s narrative, specifically Bond’s mastery of fine wine. It was also, quite fittingly, distilled in 2007 (emphasis on 007).
During its 18 years of maturation, the whisky was held in hybrid casks crafted from sherry-seasoned European and American oak. A nod to the film, the American oak casks previously held red wine. In terms of flavor profile, this innovative choice results in bold depth and unexpected sweetness. Russell Greig, The Macallan Whisky Maker, explains, “Like Bond himself, this whisky holds its secrets. It may appear dark and mysterious, yet on the palate it surprises with elegance and lightness.”
On the nose, the expression has notes of polished oak, vanilla bean and rich dried fruits. As for palate, the whisky maker describes, “a smooth and welcoming introduction of creamy vanilla and caramel [with] hints of cocoa powder coated champagne truffles, coffee, dried fruit like figs, berries and apricots. Subtle spices follow creating a complex profile.”
Not only does The Macallan have an enduring connection with this specific movie franchise, but also with the film and TV industry as a whole. Jaume Ferras, The Macallan’s Creative Director, exclusively tells The Hollywood Reporter, “Our collaboration with James Bond is the evolution of a cinematic journey that spans over 50 years for The Macallan — a legacy deeply rooted in our history under former Chairman and acclaimed screenwriter, Allan Shiach. Because of that DNA, The Macallan has appeared in the visual language of film for decades — not as a prop, but as an intentional symbol of character, refined taste and authenticity.” In fact, The Macallan has been spotted in over 290 productions.
“This release celebrates that rich timeline and the synergies between James Bond and The Macallan — just as the development of a Bond film requires immense time and care, so does our commitment to craftsmanship and creativity,” Ferras adds.
On Feb. 3, The Macallan Diamonds Are Forever 55th Anniversary Release will be exclusively available on themacallan.com and at The Macallan Estate Boutique, retailing for $750.
