Paramount+ has dropped first look images for the eighth and final season of The Chi, and for a love letter by creator Lena Waithe to her hometown, death sure stalks Chicago.
That was made clear to Jacob Latimore as Emmett when his mother, Jada Washington, played by Yolanda Ross, died in the season 7 finale after a battle with cancer. Then there was the shocking murder of Alicia Daniels Lafayette, played by Lynn Whitfield.
Now it’s all to play for in the final season. In a first look image unveiled by Paramount+ on Tuesday, with Birgundi Baker as Kiesha by his side, Emmett and the rest of The Chi cast head toward their own farewell exits. “As The Chi enters its eighth and final season and its coldest winter ever, life or death choices must be made. The question becomes, who is willing to make them? Legacy, conflict, joy, and pain,” the series producers say in a logline.
In another season eight image, loyalties and rivalries are apparently to be tested as Wendy Raquel Robinson as Riley, Baker as Kiesha, Hannaha Hall as Tiff, Zaria Imani Primer as Lynae, Karrueche Tran as Zuri and Kyla Pratt as Angie gather for a heart-to-heart. The series’ final chapter kicked off production in January, with Paramount+ yet to announce a launch date for season eight.
The ensemble cast includes Luke James, Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps and Jason Weaver. Waite created and executive produces the drama under her Hillman Grad banner, and the series is executive produced by co-showrunners Justin Hillian for Hillianaire Productions and Jewel Coronel for Uncut Gems.
Also sharing executive producer credits is Common, Aaron Kaplan, Rick Famuyiwa, Resheida Brady-Anderson, Derek Dudley, Shelby Stone, Naomi Funabashi, Rishi Rajani, James Rogers III and Deondray Gossfield and Quincy LeNear Gossfield as each directs multiple episodes.
The Chi is produced by 20th Television.
