Ted Danson brings his rarely seen daughter Kate, 46, as his date to the Actors Awards

Ted Danson made it a family affair on the red carpet as he arrived to the Actors Awards in Los Angeles with his rarely seen daughter, Kate Danson, by his side.

While bringing his eldest child to the awards ceremony (formerly SAG Awards), the 78-year-old actor looked every bit the proud father as they posed for pictures together. 

For the occasion, Danson cut a classic figure in a navy tuxedo paired with a crisp white dress shirt and black bow tie. 

The Cheers star completed the look with polished black dress shoes and his signature black-framed glasses, smiling broadly as he wrapped an arm around his daughter.

Meanwhile, Kate, 46, shimmered in a sleeveless, floor-length gold sequin gown that caught the light with every step. 

The elegant dress featured a subtle V-neckline and a thigh-high slit, which she paired with black open-toe heels and a sleek black clutch. 

At one point, the two were photographed sweetly holding hands and exchanging smiles before stopping to pose for cameras.

Kate is Danson’s daughter with his second wife, Cassandra ‘Casey’ Coates, to whom he was married from 1977 to 1993. The former couple welcomed Kate on Dec. 24, 1979.

After graduating from the ArtCenter College of Design, Kate carved out her own path in the entertainment industry. 

Though she initially resisted following in her father’s footsteps, she later embraced acting as her calling.

In a 2013 interview with the New York Post, she reflected on going through a ‘rebellious’ phase where she tried to distance herself from acting because of her father’s fame. ‘I was like, ‘No, I’m going to be an individual.’ But then I started to realize that acting is what I want to do … it brings me a lot of pleasure,’ she said at the time.

Kate revealed she received encouragement from both her father and his wife, Mary Steenburgen, sharing that they would run lines with her over the phone.
