O Romeo is based on the Mumbai underworld of the 1990s. The film is based on Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. The story is said to be inspired by real events like the rise of gangster Hussain Ustara and his rivalry with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
