Scott Hylands, who was known for his appearances in shows such as Night Heat and Fargo, passed away at age 83 on Wednesday, July 29.
The late star’s death was confirmed by his son Luke on Instagram who said that the family is ‘trying to process this horrible loss.’
The Canadian-born actor had a decades-long career in the entertainment industry which saw him take on roles in other TV series including Wonder Woman, Hart To Hart, The X-Files and Supernatural.
‘Husband, Father, Actor, Director, Writer, Storyteller, Friend, and lover of life,’ Luke penned in the caption alongside photos of Hylands.
‘I am heartbroken to share the news that my Dad Scott has passed away Wednesday night. Myself and my family are still trying to process this horrible loss.’
He continued, ‘There simply are not enough words I can say about you right now. You are my forever hero and my best friend. Always and forever. I love you. Goodbye Dad. xo.’

Luke uploaded a number of pictures to the post, including one that was a black and white image of the late actor when he was a little boy.
Other photos showed Hylands spending quality time with family and also celebrating special milestones.
The final slide in the Instagram carousel was a short clip of Luke sitting next to his father who was resting in a hospital bed.
The pair held plastic cups in their hands as they toasted, ‘To life,’ in the heartwarming video.
Hylands was born in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1943 and was raised in Vancouver, British Columbia.
He later attended the University of British Columbia where he graduated with a Bachelors in theatre in 1964.
He soon relocated to New York City to pursue his passion for acting and landed his first role as the lead in the off-Broadway production of Billy Liar.
Hylands went on to become one of the first members of the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco where he performed in additional productions such as Death of A Salesman.

The star’s first on-screen role was in the 1969 movie Daddy’s Gone A-Hunting which also starred Carol White and Paul Burke.
During the 70s, Hylands appeared in both films and television shows.
He took on a role in the Italian movie Operation Snafu (1970), Slipstream (1973), Earthquake (1974) and Bittersweet Love (1976).
Hylands additionally made appearances in shows during the decade such as Cannon, Wonder Woman, Police Story and Most Wanted.
His acting career continued when he played minor characters in projects such as The Waltons and Hart To Hart.
Hylands gained further recognition when he was cast as Detective Kevin O’Brien in the Canadian police crime drama series Night Heat in 1985.
The show, which ran for a total of four seasons, also aired on CBS in America.
The premise was: ‘The exploits of the detectives of the Mid South Precinct, in a generic North American city not unlike New York (but a lot like Toronto), chronicled through the eyes of newspaper columnist Tom Kirkwood and his “Night Heat” column,’ per IMDB.

Night Heat won a Gemini Award in Canada for Best Drama Series in both 1986 and 1987.
When the series came to an end in 1989, the actor took on guest roles in more shows such as To Catch A Killer, Tropical Heat, NYPD Blue, The X-Files and Stargate SG-1.
Throughout the 2000s, Hylands appeared in a number of TV movies and other shows.
He starred in a 2003 episode of The Dead Zone as well as an episode of Eureka in 2007.
Hylands appeared in the series Supernatural in 2011 and the following year, took on the role of Earl in the movie Becoming Redwood.
When the series came to an end in 1989, he took on guest roles in more shows such as To Catch A Killer, Tropical Heat, NYPD Blue, The X-Files and Stargate SG-1
Back in 2021, Hylands had been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and his family launched a GoFundMe to help cover costs for his medical treatment
The actor later portrayed the character of Ennis in the third season of the hit FX series Fargo.
His last credited role was a 2020 episode of the series Wynonna Earp.
Back in 2021, Hylands had been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and his family launched a GoFundMe to help cover costs for his medical treatment.
The late actor is survived by his wife Veronica and their two children Luke and Rebecca.
