Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy Guthrie, is reportedly missing from her Southern Arizona home.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, the 84-year-old was last seen Saturday night around 9:30 p.m. local time at her home in Catalina Foothills.
During a press conference Sunday night, Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that search and rescue teams were searching for Nancy by ground and air.
He also confirmed that a family member had called 911 earlier in the day to report her missing.
Per Nanos, deputies have contacted local hospitals, but none in the area have seen her.
“We’re pretty much just throwing everything at this that we can. Guthrie is 84 years old and is not of good physical health, and so naturally that’s a great concern,” Nanos told reporters, per Fox News.
The sheriff also confirmed during the press conference that homicide detectives are investigating the scene at the house, as it raised “some concern for us as well.” They are not ruling out foul play as of this moment.
“This is very concerning to us. We don’t typically get the sheriff out at a scene like this. But it’s very concerning what we’re learning from the house,” Nanos pointed out.
“And so we’ll just continue. The detective’s homicide team is out right now looking at the scene as well.”
He said she is of “good sound mind” but has physical ailments that limit her mobility.
The matriarch is described as 5-foot-5 and weighs 150 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. It is also unknown what she was wearing at the time of her disappearance.
During Monday morning’s “Today” show episode, Savannah shared a statement with her co-hosts that read, “On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.
“We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.”
She was, of course, not in the studio.
Savannah, 54, has always been open about her tight-knit relationship with her mom, who has visited her on set multiple times through the years.
“She has met unthinkable challenges in her life with grit, without self-pity, with determination, and always, always with unshakeable faith,” Savannah said in a tribute on her mother’s 80th birthday in 2022.
The journalist’s dad passed away when she was just 16 years old, making Nancy a widow at just 46.
