Rob Reiner‘s daughter Tracy Reiner is speaking out after the director and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their home on Sunday, December 14.
“I came from the greatest family ever,” Tracy, 61, told NBC News. “I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.”
Tracy — who was adopted by Rob during his marriage to the late Penny Marshall — said she had just seen her father at a family gathering one day before his death.
News broke on Sunday night that two people — a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman — were found dead inside Rob and his wife’s Los Angeles home. TMZ initially reported that the Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the property “around 3:30 p.m.” local time for “medical aid.”
The identities of the victims were not immediately made public, but their ages matched those of Rob and Michele. A spokesperson for the family later confirmed Rob and Michele’s deaths.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” read a statement to Variety. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

Us Weekly has reached out to the Los Angeles Police Department for comment.
In a press conference held on Sunday, Deputy Chief Alan S. Hamilton confirmed that the LAPD “is currently conducting an ongoing homicide investigation into the two deaths at Rob Reiner’s Brentwood home.” Hamilton noted that authorities have “not identified a suspect at this time” and are not pursuing any persons of interest.
According to Hamilton, the couple were found with “apparent stab wounds.”

Along with Tracy, Rob shared three children with Michele: sons Jake and Nick Reiner and daughter Romy Reiner. Rob and Michele had been married since 1989.
The Emmy winner was previously married to Marshall from 1971 to 1981. Despite their divorce, the former couple remained close, and Rob was among the many Hollywood stars to mourn Marshall’s death in 2018.
“So sad about Penny,” he tweeted at the time before sharing a lengthier tribute.
“I loved Penny,” he wrote. “I grew up with her. She was born with a great gift. She was born with a funnybone and the instinct of how to use it. I was very lucky to have lived with her and her funnybone. I will miss her.”
Marshall died at age 75 from complications due to diabetes. She was previously diagnosed with brain and lung cancer in 2009 before going into remission in 2012.
As more information continues to emerge surrounding Rob and Michele’s deaths, celebrities have mourned the loss of the Hollywood legend.
“Rob Reiner was one of my favorite directors,” Ben Stiller wrote via X. “He made some of the most formative movies for my generation. He came out [from] behind a huge comedic shadow of the great Carl Reiner and being a TV actor to being a great director who made an incredible run of movies. Spinal Tap is one of the best comedies ever made — and the list goes on. He was a kind caring person who was really, really funny.”
He continued, “I didn’t know him well but was always a fan and I feel a real sadness for those who did, and his family.”
