Rebekah and Jamie Vardy have put their luxurious Algarve holiday home on the market for £9.7 million (€11.5m) – just weeks after Rebekah settled the final costs of her infamous High Court libel case against Coleen Rooney.
The six-bedroom villa, located in the exclusive Quinta do Lago resort, was once a sanctuary for the Vardy family. So why are they selling up? Reports suggest that they are worried about the risks of wildfires after an incident back in 2022 left them worried for their health and safety. At the time a family source told The Daily Express, “It’s been horrifying. Their neighbours have all been evacuated and one by one residents are being told to leave their homes.”
“Becky can see smoke everywhere and she’s terrified about the kids breathing it in. The water is also down so she’s relying on bottled water which, obviously, there is only a finite amount of at home. Jamie and their friends and family back home have all been really worried. Things are developing by the hour but she’s praying the fire brigades, who have been brilliant, can get things back under control.”
Other reports are suggesting that the Vardys are selling their holiday villa to cover the £1.4 million (€1.65 million) court order following the infamous “Wagatha Christie” trial.
Vardy villa is packed with lavish extras
The home, once available to rent for £30,000 a week, features:
- Three swimming pools
- Cinema room
- Gym, sauna, and steam room
- Electro-chromic glass lift across all four levels
- Rooftop terrace with panoramic golf course views
Estate agency Knight Frank describes the pad, as a ‘magnificent property, built over four levels, showcases meticulous attention to lifestyle details.’ The Sun also notes the home sits on a 0.64-acre plot in Quinta do Lago and neighbours celebrities including Alan Shearer, John Terry, Holly Willoughby, and Phillip Schofield. A friend of the Vardys told The Sun, “They had some great times there but just decided it was time for a change. It’s actually laughable for anyone to think it has anything to do with the court case. Nothing could be further from the truth. And that’s shown by the fact they are looking for a new holiday pad.”
Vardy, 43, launched a high-profile libel case in 2022 after Coleen Rooney publicly accused her of leaking fake stories to the press. The court ruled in Rooney’s favour, ordering Vardy to pay over £1.4 million in legal costs, on top of her own reported £2 million legal bill.
While husband Jamie Vardy, 38, reportedly earned £7.3 million (€8.61 million) last season at Leicester City, the couple’s finances have taken a hit.
