Pakistani singer Shae Gill became instantly popular in India for singing Pasoori with Ali Sethi. Several Pakistani artists’ Instagram profiles were blocked in India following the gruesome Pahalgam attack on Indian tourists. However, Shae’s account could be accessed by Indian followers. The singer took to her Instagram story to share a post that read, “God bless our armed forces Pakistan Zindabad (sic)”, Shae had written. That’s not all, her next post saw her lauding her Pakistan’s media coverage of tensions between the neighbouring countries.
Fans in India have showed no inhibitions in sharing their thoughts on X. A netizen posted on X, “I used to admire and enjoy their work, and I still respect their talent. But for me, the nation comes first. Our Army comes first. At a time when our soldiers are protecting our borders, I find it difficult to support voices that openly praise Pakistan on social media. I’ve noticed that many fellow Indians still follow them, even after requests from our government to disengage. I urge you to reflect: Nation First. Always.”
In another post, a netizen urged the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in India to block Shae Gill’s account.
Amid the tensions between India and Pakistan, Instagram accounts of Hania Aamir, Mahira Khan and Ali Zafar were banned in India. Indian government had issued a formal advisory to all OTT platforms and digital streaming services on May 8 and instructed them to immediately remove any web series, films, music, podcasts, or other content that belonged to Pakistan. The advisory, which was drawn under the IT Rules, 2021, had mentioned national security concerns and aimed at preventing the dissemination of content which was considered harmful to India’s sovereignty or public order.
