The Obamas’ production banner Higher Ground has added Expense Account to its podcast network.

The food and culture podcast is hosted by food critic Jason Lee, who co-created the show with Emily Sundberg, who runs the popular Substack Feed Me. The twice weekly show is entering into its second season, and has featured conversations with guests from food, media, business and hospitality, as well as conversations about stories from Feed Me’s reporting on the restaurant industry.

This joins the podcast slate at Higher Ground, which includes IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, Lemme Say This with Hunter Harris and Peyton Dix; Reconstruction: The Unfinished Promise featuring President Barack Obama and Malcolm Gladwell, Fela Kuti: Fear No Man; Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso and Stories From A Stranger with Hunter Prosper.

“At Higher Ground, we’re always looking for creators who bring fresh perspectives and build meaningful connections with audiences. Emily and Jason have created something special with Expense Account – a show that uses food as a lens to explore culture, business, creativity, and the people shaping how we live today,” said Dan Fierman, head of podcast at Higher Ground. “We’re excited to welcome them to Higher Ground’s growing podcast slate as they continue to expand the show’s reach and impact with an additional episode each week.”

The podcast is a spinoff of Lee’s column in Feed Me. The show is produced in partnership with the company.

“We’re so excited to partner with the team at Higher Ground for the next chapter of the Expense Account podcast, and look forward to having more conversations about the most interesting players (and rooms they occupy) in the hospitality industry today. And hopefully Jason’s dream guest, Dua Lipa,” Sundberg said.

“We had an amazing run of guests for the first season, Including Helen Rosner, Pete Wells, Alison Roman, Keith Mcnally, and Chef Paul Carmichael,” said Lee. “I’m so thrilled to be working with Higher Ground to take this podcast to the next level. Expect more food, more laughs, more surprises.”
