Bosses at skincare giant Neutrogena have admitted they made Hayden Panettiere “feel unsupported during a very difficult time”.
The company has come under scrutiny following the actress’ death last week as fans revisited her claim she was dropped as a Neutrogena ambassador after she went public with her struggle with post-natal depression — with many calling for a boycott of the brand.
Now Neutrogena executives have spoken out about their “sadness” over Hayden’s death and revealed they plan to make a “significant investment to a long-standing community health partner” to help other women going through similar troubles.
A statement posted on Instagram reads: “We are deeply saddened by Hayden Panettiere’s passing. For more than a decade, Haydenwas a valued member of our Neutrogena community.
“We are proud to have partnered with her and understand that we made her feel unsupported during a very difficult time. This is not what Neutrogena stands for or who we want to be.
“Hayden’s courage in sharing her challenges helped inspire important conversations and awareness. We are making a significant investment to a long-standing community health partner to help give more women access to the support they need, including care for postpartum depression.
“We will share more details with this community when plans are in place.”
The statement concluded: “Out of respect for Hayden’s family and loved ones, we did not want to speak out so soon after her passing. Everyone at Neutrogena extends their deepest condolences to Hayden’s family and all who loved her.”
The Nashville actress — who was mother to 11-year-old daughter Kaya with former partner Wladimir Klitschko — passed away last Sunday (Aug 16) at an apartment in South Carolina at the age of 36, and an an investigation into her death remains ongoing.
Hayden’s passing was confirmed by her father, Alan Panettiere, who hailed the actress as an “incredible light and a force of nature”.
Alan said in his statement: “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her – and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”
Her father asked for privacy “as our family takes time to process this unimaginable loss”.
