The biggest Hollywood names are being mercilessly roasted online after debuting their wild looks on the red carpet at the 2026 Met Gala.

Dubbed ‘fashion’s biggest night,’ the soiree raises money for New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute by charging $100,000 to attend.

This year’s dress code ‘Fashion is Art’ encouraged attendees to explore how designers use the human body as a blank canvas.

And fans had a field day as they flocked to social media to share memes mocking many of the night’s biggest celebrities, including Nicole Kidman and Kim Kardashian.

Kidman was brutally compared to a toilet brush after walking up the Met’s iconic staircase in a red sequin Chanel gown featuring a bizarre feathered waist.

‘Nicole Kidman at the Met Gala Nailed it As luxury brush…,’ one X user penned, while posting a hilarious side-by-side of Kidman and a ‘luxury’ brush.

Three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep skipped out on the Met Gala this year.

But she was still at the forefront of fans’ minds when her daughter Grace Gummer, 39, arrived in a shiny gold off-the-shoulder gown.

Several X users joked that Gummer, who is also an actress and recently starred in Ryan Murphy’s Love Story, was ‘dressed as one of her mother’s Oscars.’

Heidi Klum was nearly unrecognizable as she hit the red carpet in a spooky look that appeared to channel both the Statue of Liberty and a veiled Greek statue in one striking ensemble.

She was wrapped from head-to-toe in sculptural, stone-like fabric, which many online felt was more appropriate for her annual Halloween party than the prestigious Met Gala.

Some even went as far as to compare Klum’s look to a wad of soggy toilet paper, with one writing, that Klum is ‘the toilet paper once you are cleaning the bathroom and forgot to cover it.’

Katy Perry’s AI-inspired getup, which included a futuristic mask that opened and closed to reveal her face, spawned countless memes.

‘Me when my social battery runs out,’ tweeted out one X user along with a clip of Perry shutting her mask closed in the midst of the red carpet chaos.

The eeriness of Perry’s mask also had fans comparing her to the controversial Tesla Bot, with one declaring, ‘[Tesla Bot] did it first.’

Kim Kardashian was not safe from scrutiny once photos of her arriving at the Met Gala began to make their way online.

The 45-year-old SKIMS founder traded her signature brunette hair for blonde as she slipped her hourglass curves into a hardshell orange bodysuit with extra pointy nipples.

The look drew comparisons to the iPhone 17, which was released in 2025 in an orange variant that is nearly identical to the shade worn by Kardashian.

‘she looks like the new iphone help bye,’ tweeted one fan, followed by a crying-laughing emoji.

Many also compared the mother-of-four’s outfit to a cheap superhero costume with specific references to the low-priced online retailer Temu.

‘what in the temu superhero is this lol,’ read one brutal jab on X.

Cardi B’s custom Marc Jacobs gown was among the most divisive looks of the night that had fans comparing her to diseased intestines and even colons.

Many believed the rapper went a little too far with the ‘Fashion is Art’ theme.

‘Why does she look like intestines [crying emoji],’ one X user posted while another said she resembled a sexually transmitted infection as they wrote: ‘Cardi B is dressed as an STI at the Met Gala.’

Bad Bunny nearly went unrecognized at the star-studded soiree as the 31-year-old hitmaker transformed into a senior citizen.

He had on impressive facial prosthetics, old age makeup and his typically brunette hair and facial hair was turned white.

The shocking transformation had fans joking that the singer is no longer Bad Bunny and that his ‘older’ version would now be called ‘Rotten Rabbit.’

Several X users pointed out that Bad Bunny’s older self looks like the debonair gray-haired man from Dos Equis beer’s iconic The Most Interesting Man in the World campaign, who was played by Jonathan Goldsmith.

Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams’ ‘disastrous’ two-toned makeup look inspired a plethora of jokes, with fans calling on his makeup artist to ‘never do makeup again.’

‘Me when I’m 12 and playing in my moms makeup,’ one fan wrote under an up-close image of Williams’s face that was posted to X.

Madonna’s towering gothic hat inspired a slew of comparisons to fictional villains, including the titular monster from the horror film The Babadook.

She was also compared to the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang villain Child Catcher from the 1969, who dons a black cape and a tall black hat.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, also known as the Met Gala, falls on the first Monday in May every year.

The theme of this year’s event – widely considered the Super Bowl of celebrity red carpets – is ‘Costume Art’, while the dress code is ‘Fashion Is Art.’

The dress code calls on the A-list attendees to explore how designers use the human body as a blank canvas.

Leading the charge is a powerhouse trio of co-chairs, with Beyonce, Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams joining forces with Vogue’s global editorial director Anna Wintour to oversee fashion’s biggest night.

It’s the first time tennis superstar Williams has co-chaired the gala. Kidman previously co-chaired the star-studded event in 2003 as well as 2005, and Beyonce was an honorary chair in 2013.

The New York City museum will pair historical and contemporary garments from the Costume Institute for the exhibition, which will be loosely divided into three categories, including the classical and the nude body, aging and pregnant bodies, and the anatomical body.

The exhibit – set to unveil the Met’s sprawling new Conde M. Nast Galleries – has been made possible by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sanchez, who are the lead sponsors and honorary co-chairs.

‘The title “Costume Art” refers to the history of the costume institute,’ Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute’s curator, said at a press conference.

Bolton, who selects the theme, said fashion has ‘the status of art because of, and not in spite of, its relation to the body.’

French luxury fashion house Yves Saint Laurent is also sponsoring the exhibit.

The 2026 Met Gala will also have a host committee that includes committee co-chairs Anthony Vaccarello and Zoe Kravitz, along with members Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Angela Bassett, Gwendoline Christie, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor and more.

Costume Art will run from May 10, 2026 through January 10, 2027, following the Met Gala on May 4.

The Met Gala is a huge money-maker for the museum, and provides the Costume Institute with its main source of funding.

The 2026 Met Gala marks a major moment because it’s the first one since Wintour technically stepped back from one of her famed roles at Vogue.

In June 2025, Wintour announced she was stepping down as the editor-in-chief of American Vogue after 37 years.

The global director for Vogue and global chief content officer at Conde Nast hired Chloe Malle as the new head of editorial content at Vogue.

Wintour has famously been incredibly hands-on with the Met Gala over the years, and is credited with making it the splashy A-list affair it has become, beloved by celebrities like Rihanna, the Kardashians, Blake Lively, Zendaya and more.

Last year, many stars did not attend the Met Gala, and some people thought it was to avoid making a faux pas because of the theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which was centered around the political and aesthetic constructs of Black dandyism.
